From the picture-perfect town to the 360km of intermediate and advanced terrain, this Swiss superstar is the dream winter playground. And with Jet2 ski flights to Geneva, you can go from plane to piste in just a few hours. Did you know we offer 22kg baggage* and up to 22kg ski carriage* too? We think it’s time to start planning that trip...
The resort
Imagine an idyllic alpine town and you won’t be far off the mark with Zermatt. It’s a car-free resort, but you can hop on the electric buses or opt for a horse-drawn sleigh ride if you’re in the mood to explore. Designer boutiques and luxury hotels line the main street, so you can expect swish surroundings as standard. It’s a popular pick for foodies too, with restaurants spanning every cuisine you can think of. Don’t leave without trying a classic Swiss fondue.
The slopes
Zermatt shares its ski area with Cervinia, which is just across the border in Italy. It boasts some of the most snow-sure conditions and the highest slopes in the Alps, topping out at 3,833m. The resort’s lofty location means the link between the two countries is often closed due to wind, so it’s a good idea to buy a local area pass. Then, you can pay for individual days if you fancy hopping over to the Italian side, grabbing a cheaper lunch and making the most of the more mellow runs. There’s no shortage of scenic runs here, but for the best of the best, take the Kumme gondola to the mid-station. Point your skis down the red and get ready for Matterhorn magic from every angle. Seasoned pro? Take on one of Europe’s longest freeride runs, the Triftji. Fan of freestyle? There’s a halfpipe, rails and kickers to tackle in the Furggsattel park.
The après
It’s easy to see why this resort is just as popular with non-skiers, as there’s so much to see and do. You can experience one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world on the Gornergrat Bahn. Snowshoeing along tranquil trails, sledding down picturesque peaks and unwinding in serene spas is all on the agenda too. When it comes to nightlife, there are plenty of places to head to when the slopes close for the day. The Hennu Stall is a fan favourite, where dancing to the live band is a non-negotiable. For crafted cocktails and a more chilled vibe, make a beeline for Snowboat. It’s designed like a yacht and there are sofas on the roof! And if you want to know about the town’s past, the Matterhorn Museum brings its history to life.
