Not wanting to say goodbye to the sunshine season just yet? Read on to see where you can jet off to this October for a dose of autumnal sun.

When October arrives, it officially means summer is almost closing its doors for another year, ahead of wintry November. But that doesn’t mean holidays have to go anywhere. There are plenty of places to visit where the sun is still shining and the days are full of warmth. So, we’ve put together a collection of our favourite destinations for some swell October weather.

Antalya Area

Average temperature: 26°C

It’s easy to see why Antalya is Turkey’s fastest growing city. With gorgeous stretches of golden sands to lounge on, water and theme parks to enjoy, nearby golf resorts and an abundance of sights to see, it ticks the boxes for every visitor.

Families will love endless fun at Antalya’s aquarium or the Dinopark. Or why not delve into the history of the region by visiting Hadrian’s Gate or the old town in Side? The weather here is also a huge plus! The summer temperatures haven’t fallen fully by October, so you’re still guaranteed time spent catching the rays.

Bodrum Area

Average temperature: 25°C

Heading west from Antalya, you’ll find brilliant Bodrum. There’s a real buzz here – from the bustling bazaars to the incredible street food scene, the holiday vibes are always in full swing. Autumn in Bodrum is especially delightful, with temperatures sitting in the high 20s. So you can explore the historic sights, like Bodrum’s castle or stretch out on the shores at Gumbet without the scorching summer heat.

Head to Altinkum to witness one of Bodrum’s most unspoilt areas, with protected sandy coves and some of the world’s most important historical sites! Families will love spending fun-filled days at the aqua parks, or why not visit a traditional Turkish bath and add some relaxation to your October getaway?

Lanzarote

Average temperature: 27°C

This UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve makes for a treat of an October destination. The unique landscape is a playground for those who like to explore, and the shimmering shorelines are ideal for something a little slower paced. Playa Blanca is the place to be for a sun-kissed getaway and Costa Teguise is a big hit with families, thanks to it thrilling aqua park and bubbly town square.

The climate in Lanzarote rarely disappoints either, no matter what time of year you visit. But an October getaway usually promises high-twenty temperatures – primed for topping up that fading summer tan!

Gran Canaria

Average temperature: 26°C

Here you have a Canary Island where sun shines all year round, so it’s almost as warm in October as it is in peak summer season! You can expect dreamy temperatures of around 26°C, so you’ll be able to make the most of the stunning shores like Playa de Amadores or Playa Taurito. For a unique Gran Canaria experience, head to Maspalomas Dunes. The 400 hectares of magnificent golden sand dunes stretch ahead of you with carved-out paths you can follow to roam around the landscape.

There are so many other spectacular sights to see – you’ll wonder what to put at the top of your to-do list. The historic El Faro Lighthouse sits proudly on Maspalomas’ coastline and was previously used to guide ships from Africa to America! Climb the ancient volcanic rock, Roque Nublo, or visit the bronzed sands of Playa Del Cura to see what Gran Canaria has to offer!

Paphos

Average temperature: 27°C

If you’re after the winning combination of Blue Flag beaches and UNESCO-listed historical sites, then Paphos is a match. Add the stretches of postcard-worthy coastlines to the glorious average temperatures of 27°C and you’ve got a blissful autumn destination. After some adventure on your trip to Paphos? Visit one of the PGA-accredited, award-winning golf-courses and tee off in the Cypriot sun.

The possibilities for day trips are endless too. Uncover archaeological treasures at the Amathus ruins, go underground at the Tombs of the Kings, or admire the impressive mosaics and architecture of Kykkos Monastery. You’ll also find a variety of water sports to get involved with. Rent paddleboards or jet-skis or head to one of the scuba schools and try diving, to witness the incredible sea life in this part of the Mediterranean!

Algarve

Average temperature: 25°C

Golden beaches, soaring cliffs, choppy waves for surfing and swanky seaside towns... the Algarve keeps every holidaymaker happy. The dramatic, ochre-tinged landscape of Portugal’s south coast provides some of the most breathtaking views in the country. The most southern town in the Algarve, Sagres, is the place to be for unrivalled coastal views and it’s a big hit with surfers, thanks to its pristine waves.

Venture into Faro’s Old Town to explore whitewashed cobbled streets, spotting colourful doors and decorative tiles as you go. For visitors seeking a little luxury, Vilamoura provides designer shops, impeccable bars and restaurants, and a marina decorated with grand yachts and florescent lights. The October temperatures here are still ideal for lounging on one of the Algarve's many beaches. Enjoy averages of 25°C on the silky sands at Camilo Beach or Praia dos Salgados.

Rhodes

Average temperature: 24°C

The Greek Islands are glorious no matter when you fly by. The turquoise waters still glisten and, with averages of 24°C in October, a jolly to Rhodes at this time of year still guarantees sunny days. History fans will love the chance to behold the ancient Acropolis of Lindos and the Church of Panagia. For a tourist fave, head into Rhodes town where the shops are buzzing, and you can find restaurants for delving into platters of lip-smacking meze or delicious gyros.

You’ll discover little villages all over Rhodes full of hidden coves and still-standing ruins. Make your way to Lachania for bougainvillea-covered streets, tiny churches and quiet squares. But if seasides are what you’re after, Kallithea or Ialyssos are the places for you. Sprawling stretches of white sands and glistening turquoise waters are the norm there!

Morocco

Average temperature: 22°C

We can’t get enough of our new-for-2024 destination, Morocco! Exhibiting a medley of sights and aromas, it’s a north African cauldron of culture that we know you’ll be inspired by. In mystifying Marrakech, expect to be reeled in by the souks selling spices, textiles and trinkets, all while the sun’s rays do their thing in the early 20s – nice and warm compared to back home. It’s here that you’ll find intricately tiled riad accommodation, a sprinkling of blossoming gardens and ultra-blue minarets and palatial buildings. Keen golfer? You might even fancy testing out your putting prowess in the milder temps at Montgomerie Marrakech Golf Club.

Water sports more your vibe? Your best best for a marvellous Moroccan getaway in October will be Agadir. This area’s famed for its wind-whipped waves that appeal to surfers. Between shopping, coffee-sipping and embracing beach life, you can do it all here, without waiting for summer.
