Bid farewell to winter and look forward to a sunny break in March! We’ve got the lowdown on the best European destinations for a taste of sun, with plenty to do. How does gracing the Costa Blanca’s beaches sound? Or teeing off in the Algarve? Maybe journeying around Greece is a bit more your style…

The Algarve, 14°C
March is a great time to visit the Algarve as it comes out of its winter slumber. The beaches, like Praia da Rocha and Meia Praia, will still be blessed with some gentle sun, and the picturesque towns begin to come to life. An afternoon exploring Lagos or Albufeira guarantees fresh food in local eateries, cultural treasures and a serene setting out of peak season. It’s a great climate for golf-lovers too!

Dalaman Area, 17°C
The early springtime charm of Turkey’s south-western coast means you can explore ancient ruins, beautiful beaches and local villages in a comfortable temperature. Hotspots like the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Olu Deniz are quieter than in the summer months but offer just as much beauty. Or what about a trip to Kayakoy (the ghost town) in Hisaronu? This town of ruins leaves plenty to talk about!

The Costa Blanca, 19°C
With temperatures stretching up to 20 degrees, don’t forget to pack your beach towel. The Blue Flag beach of Playa Los Arenales del Sol and its soft sand welcomes you with open arms… The Costa Blanca is a holiday hotspot for a reason!
There’s also plenty to do, like a climb to the top of the Castillo de Santa Barbara, where you’ll be met with sweeping harbour views. Although it’s the perfect weather for a hike, there’s a lift too. There are also tonnes of pubs, art galleries and authentic Spanish scenes to explore.

Majorca, 17°C
This Balearic beauty is perfect for exploring during milder temperatures, with fewer bustling crowds. You can discover sites like Palma Cathedral and Bellver Castle with a more intimate experience while the island’s natural landscape still blooms. Hiking and outdoor activities are a must – the citrus trees en route and local delicacies awaiting when you’ve finished make for a lovely day.
One date for your calendar is the 1 March. Día de las Islas Baleares (Day of the Balearic Islands), celebrates the anniversary of the Balearic Islands gaining their independence and is celebrated mainly in Palma, Majorca’s capital. The event includes a medieval market, local food and live performances.

Paphos Area, 19°C
Paphos boasts comfortable temperatures reaching 22 degrees in March, so beach days are likely. If you’re taking the family, then Coral Bay is ranked an incredible spot with gentle waves and generous sun. Archaeological treasures are also in abundance, so take your pick and enjoy your stay. Watching the boats sail into the harbour while nibbling on your favourite meze platter sounds delightful, don’t you think?

Tenerife, 21°C
The Canary Islands are renowned for being year-round weather heroes, and Tenerife is the largest, making it a great option for sun-seekers. Will it be a hike up Mount Teide, a ride in the cable car or simply lounging on the beach? The black sands of Playa de la Arena are a real treat.

Larnaca, 19°C
Cypriot hospitality, charming towns and cultural exploration make Larnaca a great, warm destination for your Mediterranean getaway. Every resort along this stretch of Cyprus’ south-east coast offers something different, but Nissi Bay is a winner for the nautical and natural. Cape Greco National Park and charming villages like Pano Lefkara are all essential for authentic slivers of Larnaca, while Limassol is the place to be for great shopping spots and fascinating art.

Greece, 16°C
You can fly to Athens year-round with Jet2.com, as well as Corfu, Rhodes, Crete and Santorini from the end of March. So, depending on whether you’re a culture-vulture, beach-lover or bar-seeker, there’s a piece of Greece for you. Crete has the history and Santorini has the postcard-perfect scenes, while Rhodes, Corfu and Athens offer an A-Z of activities.
