The beer gardens are bursting, the piazzas are packed and the sun’s almost always shining…yep, June’s just-right for a jolly. Cloudless corners of Europe are waiting on standby, and these holiday hotspots should be top of your wish list.

Majorca

Average temperature: 27°

Make tracks to Majorca before the summer rush and enjoy this Balearic beauty in all its glory. Come June, it’s brilliantly balmy, with temperatures hitting the high twenties. Bask in the rays on popular patches like Es Trenc or Cala Bona, then cool off in the snorkel-ready sea. If you need a little less beach and a bit more city, Palma has enough history and culture to keep you busy for a weekend.

Algarve

Average temperature: 28°

June shows off the Algarve at its best. Though you could easily spend all your time lounging on the Blue Flag beaches, there’s a wealth of activities and cultural gems on hand too. Bit of a foodie? An average of 28° means it’s more than warm enough for al fresco wining and dining. Freshly grilled fish and succulent peri-peri chicken are just two of the lip-smacking staples. Take advantage of the mild afternoons and chip your way around one of the region’s golf courses.

Costa Blanca

Welcome to the home of bold-and-bright Benidorm! It’s been the bustling Brit-hit for years, but that’s far from all that’s here. Prefer somewhere more sedate? The former fishing village of Calpe boasts a mystifying marina to walk around. Cycling routes, tucked-away towns and seaside eateries are all here in droves too. This month in the Costa Blanca, the stars align: the sun shines more, the days are longer and warmer (around 27°C) and there are festivals almost every weekend.

Tenerife

While there really isn’t a bad time to be in Tenerife, the beginning of the summer season is always a good bet. Good weather is near-guaranteed, encouraging days of lounging on the sand followed by refreshing dips in the ocean. Holidaymakers flock to the glitzy Costa Adeje, for its smattering of first-class eateries, dishing up a crowd-pleasing cookbook of island favourites like mojo sauce-drenched papas arrugadas. Beyond the resorts, there’s a slideshow of scenery to admire, from cacti-dotted plains to the snow-capped Mount Teide. 

Izmir

Average temperature: 30°

This Turkish treat is reliably hot in June, with temperatures often soaring into the thirties. Get up early to squeeze in some sightseeing while it’s cooler. You’ll be in a prime position for ticking off bucket-list spots like Ephesus and the Library of Celsus. Kusadasi's the resort of choice for sun-seekers, thanks to its collection of eight beaches and three waterparks.

Dubrovnik Coast

Average temperature: 25°

With temperatures comfortably in the mid-twenties, the Dubrovnik Coast is a fab place to visit in June. While you’ve got a history-filled city centre and fascinating neighbouring resorts, there’s no short supply of pretty islands you can bob over to. Forests, reserves and the Elaphiti Islands are all up there among the most magical patches. But with Mljet National Park among the oldest protected areas, it’s a must-visit.

Zante

Average temperature: 28°

From beach-hopping to turtle watching, boat trips and indulging in freshly caught seafood, Zante’s pleasures are plentiful. And the island is a real show-off during the summer months. We’re talking wonderful weather (around 28°) and a jam-packed events calendar. Seize the opportunity to explore the capital, Zante Town, immerse yourself in the island’s history or embark on an adventure to the Blue Caves.

Paphos

Average temperature: 28°

With average highs of 28° throughout June and a fab selection of sprawl-on-me sands, fun in the sun is Paphos’ specialty. But if peeling back the pages of the history books is more up your alley, it couldn’t be simpler to have your fix of history. Start at the Tombs of the Kings for an eerie underground wander, then wind your way over to Paphos Archaeological Park for marvellous, still-preserved mosaics.

Ibiza

Average temperature: 26°

The White Isle excels in the sunshine department throughout June, with clear skies and temperatures in the high twenties. It’s a well-known holidaymaker haunt, with neon-lit nightlife for the thrill-seekers and oh-so-chic beach bars for the chill-seekers. If you’re into your old towns, Dalt Vila is superb for soaking up local history. You could box off sweeping bays, hippie markets and low-key Santa Eulalia too.

Bodrum

Average temperature: 30°

Bodrum buzzes all summer long – but if you want to squeeze in a visit before the peak season starts, the days are toasty in June, too. Spend your time pottering the narrow streets of Bodrum Town, checking out the local shops or the bazaars, which are stuffed with bargains. It also has its fair share of vibrant nightlife, especially in Gumbet, where you can find dawn-till-dusk activity.  

Antalya

Sunshine is your best friend in Antalya, with over 300 days of it a year. There are plenty of Blue Flag beaches to choose from – even one home to protected sea turtles. That means endless clean and family-friendly seaside days. Why not let the kids go wild at a theme park or aqua park? The aquarium in Antalya will hook the whole gang with the world’s longest tunnel too.
