If there’s one Greek island that stands out as vibrant, it’s Zante. From its famous chalky cliffs to its bass-filled nightlife, this Ionian jewel’s geared up for gorgeous Greek retreats. But with so many spots to explore, it can be hard to know where’s best to stay. That’s where we come in…

Laganas
Best for night owls
After-hours fun is Laganas’ specialty, with its mile-long strip dotted with beat-thumping clubs. Beyond the bars, relaxing is very much on the cards here. In fact, it’s home to the longest beach on the island, a 5km-long stretch of golden grains. It’s also one of the best spots in the Med to spy sea turtles, as they nest here throughout July and August.

Zante Town
Best for culture vultures
The island’s capital is a bustling hub, with lots to offer every type of sun-seeker. The cobbled streets are lined with Venetian-style buildings and the town’s Byzantine Museum is crammed full of precious artworks. Evenings are spent dining on delicious dishes, sipping on local wine and listening to live music in the main squares.

Tsilivi
Best for beachfront breaks
A charming harbour? Sun-kissed sands? Tasty tavernas? It’s no wonder Tsilivi is such a popular pick. Spend your days lounging on Tsilivi Beach, which boasts a Blue Flag for cleanliness. There are stacks of water sports on offer too, including windsurfing and water skiing.

Kalamaki
Best for families
On the island’s southern shores, you’ll find this laidback resort. It shares Laganas’ sweeping sands, so there’s plenty of space for sandcastle building contests. The warm waters are nice and shallow – ideal for the tiniest tots. And when the sun goes down, take your pick of the traditional tavernas, which serve up all the main-menu staples.

Akrotiri
Best for serene stays
R&R is the name of the game in Akrotiri. Nestled among olive groves on the east coast, this tranquil village serves up a slice of Greek bliss. The Blue Flag beach calls for days in the rays, while the waterpark and mini golf course get the kids’ seal of approval.

Alykanas
Best for traditional seaside charm
Welcome to a dainty Greek village, enveloped by vineyards. Sounds peaceful, right? Settle down for a leisurely lunch in one of the family-run tavernas, then unwind on the fine golden sands. On an evening, head into the centre and cocktail-hop your way around the bars.

Argassi
Best for scenic surroundings
It’s all about views, views and more views in this village on Zante’s southwest coast. If you can tear yourself away from the postcard panoramas, there’s a handy helping of bars and tavernas, as well as a sand-and-shingle beach. Fancy a day trip? Jump on the tourist train and you’ll be in Zante Town in just ten minutes.

Alykes
Best for active types
Surrounded by lush countryside, Alykes lays on the lot for the adventurous. Hire a bike and explore on two wheels or pop on your boots and hike the hills. And once you’ve clocked up those kilometres, the resort’s beach is the perfect place to recharge the batteries.

Keri
Best for foodies
You won’t find restaurant chains here, just authentic eateries serving up delicious Greek goodies. The beachside bars offer a dreamy backdrop for tucking into fresh, feta-studded salads, sumptuous seafood and grilled meats. Be sure to check out the historic lighthouse and pebbled beach too.

Aghios Sostis
Best for nature lovers
It may be just minutes from Laganas, but Aghios Sostis is worlds away from its party-loving neighbour. Frame your days around the pristine sandy beach – a great base for enjoying a bit of turtle-spotting. The swish cocktail bars are the place to be at sundown, but you’re not far from Zante Town if you fancy a change of pace.
