We’ve already been treated to lots of binge-worthy shows and fab flicks in 2024, and with more in the pipeline, this is fast becoming the year of the set-jetter. So, it’s time to get off the sofa and step into the screen as we shine the spotlight on some of our most camera-ready destinations...

Malta

Gladiator 2

This long-awaited sequel is due to land in cinemas this November. Much of the filming has taken place in Malta, at Fort Ricasoli, which overlooks the entrance to Valletta’s Grand Harbour. And it’s not the first time this idyllic isle’s been featured on the big screen. Jurassic World, World War Z, Troy... this is a real Hollywood hotspot.

Rome

One Day

We’re not sure we’ve quite recovered yet from the emotional rollercoaster that was One Day. Based on David Nicholls’ bestseller, this romcom follows the ups and downs of instantly relatable friends-turned-couple Dexter and Emma. In episode two, we follow Dex as he swans around Rome, taking in sights such as the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola and the Spanish Steps. You could also follow in his footsteps and take a stroll around the trendy Trastevere neighbourhood.

Emily in Paris

For the fourth installment of fan favourite Emily in Paris, it’s reported the story will take a sidestep south of the French capital to Rome. We’re sure there will be iconic outfits, one-liners and all the usual romantic twists and turns.

Sicily

The White Lotus

While we eagerly await the arrival of season three, now’s the perfect time to get reacquainted with season two of the White Lotus. The show’s centred around the antics of guests staying at a luxurious resort – in this case, the San Domenico Palace in Taormina. The hotel’s views across the Ionian and Mount Etna had us booking our tickets to Sicily quicker than you could say ‘gelato’. Take inspiration from this Emmy Awards winner and check out the island’s sights-speckled east coast.

Croatia

Succession

Ask anyone about their favourite series from the last few years, and many will say Jesse Armstrong’s Succession. Following the Roy family, owners of one of the world’s largest media companies, it brings drama with a capital D. And all against a backdrop of some of the most beautiful money-can't-buy locations. At the end of Season two, Croatia gets a big credit, as the family holidays onboard a 279-foot yacht off the island of Korčula. And for a group that seemingly disagrees on everything, even they can’t find fault in this picturesque piece of the Med. Keep your eyes peeled and you’ll spot the 15th-century St. Mark’s Cathedral. Come and see it for yourself and enjoy the museums, markets and secluded beaches.

Greece

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3

They might have made us wait seven years, but in 2023, the third part of the My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise finally landed in cinemas. We’re back with the Portokalos family, as they go in search of their roots in Greece. Filming took place primarily in Athens and Corfu, with some scenes shot in Santorini too. Make a beeline for the capital and sun-drenched sights such as the Acropolis will be yours to explore. More of a beach bum? Opt for Corfu and say hello to golden sands.
