The Algarve

Why not take a trip to Portugal and visit the Algarve this March? With temperatures hitting up to 20°C, you won’t need to bring a jacket! You can skip the windy, grey temperatures of the UK and hit this sunny region of Portugal instead. While it may not be sunbathing weather every day, it’s the perfect time of year to explore this gorgeous region. Take some time to visit Loulé Market and grab some bargains in one of Portugal’s oldest markets, or for the wine-lovers, have an amazing day wine tasting! The Algarve has something for everyone and in March, it's a much quieter time to visit, so you don’t need to worry about queues.

Dalaman Area

With temperatures hitting the mid-to-high teens, March is an ideal time to discover the Dalaman Area. This time of year is primed for enjoying the unspoilt, white beaches and deep-blue waters of the Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it's not one to be missed! If sightseeing is more your thing, take a trip to Kayakoy (the ghost town) in Hisaronu. This incredible town, which was once a hive of activity, is now left in ruins, leaving behind a spot full of history.

Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca is a holiday-goer’s favourite, with a little bit of something for everyone. If Blue Flag beaches are your thing, then Playa Los Arenales del Sol will be up your street, with its soft, golden sand that stretches as far as the eye can see. With temperatures reaching up to 20 degrees, it’s worth bringing the beach towel and rubber rings.

If soaking up the amazing history of the ‘white coast’ is more your thing, then Castillo de Santa Barbara is well worth the climb to the top. The views of the harbour are some of the best in the region, but don’t worry if you don’t fancy the long walk to the top, there’s a lift too.

Majorca

Majorca is the biggest Balearic Island and when it comes to things to do, you certainly won’t be running out of ideas any time soon. In March, make the most of the quieter resorts and explore the more traditional sides of the island, such as the Cuevas del Drach or La Seu Cathedral in Palma.

One event to pop in your calendar on 1 of March is Día de las Islas Baleares (Day of the Balearic Islands). This day celebrates the anniversary of the Balearic Islands gaining their independence and is celebrated mainly in Palma, Majorca’s capital. The event includes a medieval market, local food and live performances.

Paphos Area

If you’re after the heat all year round, then Paphos might be calling your name. Boasting a modest 22°C in March, beach days are definitely on the cards. Take a trip to Coral Bay to make the most of the sunshine and calm waves. It's also been ranked the best spot for families.

Fancy soaking in the rich heritage that Cyprus has to offer? Between Paphos and Limassol, you’ll discover Aphrodite’s rock, where it’s said the goddess was born. If Greek mythology’s not your thing, then you could visit the Tombs of the Kings or Paphos Archaeological Park. There’s so much to do, you might even have to extend your stay!

Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands and with its long stretches of beaches, it's fab for sun-seekers. Tenerife is known for its black sandy beaches, such as Playa de la Arena, which stand out against the stunning blue waters. The weather here in March is an impressive 23 degrees, so it’s undoubtedly a winning winter getaway spot.

If you’re up for a challenge, then March might be the month to climb Mount Teide, which rises 4,000m above sea level. Fancy a more relaxing trip to the top? Mount Teide also has a cable car, meaning you can soak in the views, without even breaking a sweat!

Larnaca

What do you get when you team Blue Flag beaches with year-round sunshine? The Cypriot stunner of Larnaca! It’s made for the nautical and natural – especially around Nissi Bay – but every resort along this part of Cyprus' sun-baked south-east coast is a little bit different. Cape Greco National Park and diddy villages like Pano Lefkara are all essential visits when you’re seeking authentic slivers of Larnaca, but Limassol Marina’s your friend for an afternoon of cycling before international flavours summon your taste buds.

Greece

Think you’ve got to wait until summer for your Greek getaway? Think again! We fly to Athens year-round, as well as Corfu, Rhodes, Crete and Santorini from the end of March. Whether you’re more about the beaches than the bars, the history than the dining, or simply want the lot – you’re sure to find a piece of Greece that suits. For culture vultures, Crete is a no-brainer, thanks to the Palace of Knossos, Venetian Harbour, Heraklion Archaeological Museum and more. Santorini’s got the postcard-perfect scenes, while Rhodes, Corfu and Athens offer an A-Z of activities.
