Tenerife

Allow yourself to be drawn to the black-sand beaches of Tenerife. Depending on when you go away on your winter holiday, the temps can reach the top teens, so you’ll still be able to kick back. Follow the golden flecks of Playa De Las Americas down to Maui Beach and you’ll spy surfers doing their thing – yes, even in winter!

Hop in a cable car and you’ll be in awe of the staggering cinematic views as you ascend Mount Teide. You can stargaze up there too! Wander around Los Cristianos Harbour, savour a wine tasting afternoon in La Orotava or dot-to-dot around the patchwork of colourful streets in the island’s capital, Santa Cruz. It’s a cyclist’s haven there, and it also boasts ultra-chic tapas joints.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote is another cool Canarian pick for a winter holiday. Linger on this lush isle and you’ll unlock the spoils of its natural wonders. Calm shores meet volcanic craters, so make sure you pack your swimmers and your comfy shoes!

You’ll be charmed by Playa Blanca’s ivory-white sands, mere moments from a pretty marina. Costa Teguise is another fab spot for beach bums. The arid, otherworldly landscape of Timanfaya National Park is a must-see for adventurers, and so are the dinky stalls of Lanzarote’s regular markets. Marina Rubicon is primed for dining – think family-friendly eateries, international bars and sumptuous Spanish restaurants.

Fuerteventura

Seeking somewhere that serves up a healthy dollop of everything? Yep, Fuerteventura is a jack of all trades. If bronzed beaches, epic shopping centres and astonishing activities are the stuff of your daydreams, then hey presto! You’ve just found your winter holiday destination.

Let your jaw drop as you discover Corralejo’s sand dunes. The vast expanse of glittering grains has been swept into mighty curves over the years, and it’s now one of the island’s most popular landmarks. Life in Costa Caleta – Caleta De Fuste revolves around the shore and Jandia’s a tailor-made playground for windsurfers. Who’s for a laid-back chitchat over salt-wrinkled Canarian potatoes, grilled octopus and a chilled glass of wine?

Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria doesn’t do things by halves – even in winter. Warm days evolve into balmy evenings. Big on beaches? Families, couples and groups can all have their fill – and their space – in picturesque Puerto Rico. You’ll enjoy being beside the seaside in Playa Del Ingles, which is also famed for its fab shops and laugh-a-minute entertainment.

Similarly to Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria has a set of sand dunes – you’ll find these ones in sleek Maspalomas. This sophisticated resort is embellished with luxury. You’ll also be able to visit the capital, Las Palmas, sit down to cabaret shows and sample net-fresh local seafood during your winter holiday.

Costa Blanca

There’s no need to draw a blank in the Costa Blanca. As one of Spain’s quintessential beach destinations, it has bags of bucket-list beauties. The region translates as the ‘White Coast’, so team that with its high-teens winter climes and you’ll be in your element.

This captivating costa conjures up images of Benidorm’s bright lights, Brit pubs and can-see-for-miles beachfronts. But that’s not all that’s there. For starters, a winter holiday in these parts can include day trips to the Algar Waterfalls, DinoPark and Guadalest. Calling all foodies! Tapas Alley is a garlic-infused, olive oil-drizzled, chargrilled haven for the palate. How about exploring the enchanting former fishing village of Calpe? Its charm still has no limit.

Antalya Area

Soar over to the Antalya Area and a stylish recipe of top-rated hotels, traditional Turkish towns and blissful beaches will be on tap. Dig into its past to reveal Ottoman and Byzantine relics. But if the modern era is more up your street, how about hitting the designer boutiques or highly-ranked golf courses of Belek? Lara Beach has R&R etched all over it.

The best thing about Antalya Area winter holidays – on top of those plush perks – is the all-inclusive hotels. You can rest easy knowing that your three main meals and selected drinks and snacks are all packaged up in your booking. And most of these pristine properties are luxurious four and five-star complexes, kitted out with sensational, spacious on-site facilities that tick the boxes for young and old. Tempted? We thought so.
