Where to go in September for sunshine

Not sure where to go in September for a late summer holiday? We’ve got some sun-kissed destinations to inspire you.

Before summer trickles over into autumn and the warm weather fades away, make the most of those light nights and balmy days with a September holiday.

As schools will be back, it’ll be the prime time to explore and enjoy Europe as you please. This glorious natural playground is still basking in the sun in September too, so there’s still plenty of time to get a dollop of vitamin D.

Not quite sure where to go in September for a holiday? There are oodles of places you could jet off to, but here are some of our faves.

Greek Islands

The Greek Islands are a dreamy bunch. While there are more than 200 to choose from, we’ve got six soul-stirring isles that dazzle and charm in equal measure. And their mid-twenties temperatures make the Greek Islands an ideal September retreat.

For show-stopping beaches, the Ionian Islands come up trumps, with Kefalonia boasting some of the finest. Corfu, meanwhile, has a bounty of untamed nature to discover. If it’s layers of history and culture you’re looking to unravel, Rhodes has oodles of it. Not forgetting Kos, which boasts some of the best beaches in the Dodecanese archipelago.

Ibiza

By September, the world-class White Isle has quietened down a little, so it’s the perfect time to uncover its wilder, boho vibe. Traditional towns and sleepy coves are the ideal setting for a laid-back getaway, and when temperatures are still up in the mid-twenties, there’s plenty of sunshine still to be had.

If you’re a bit of a night owl and want to sample the renowned nightlife, there’s a variety of superclub closing parties that you can attend! If not, make a beeline for a waterfront beach bar and soak up the sunset with a cocktail instead.

Sorrento Area

Au fait with northern Italy but not been that far south? Say hello to Sorrento! Draped around the Bay of Naples and flowing out to the Amalfi Coast, this area is striking with a capital ‘S’. History hunters will find ancient attractions by the bucket load (we’re looking at you Pompeii) and the town of Sorrento is a real charmer. Tick off Piazza Tasso and Marina Grande and make sure you sample the local tipple limoncello.

Pretty Positano is the place you’ll recognise from postcards. Colourful houses cling to the cliffside, tumbling all the way down to the waterfront, where boutiques and trattorias await.

Venetian Riviera

Venice is always a good idea. The gondolas, the history, the Aperol spritz – yep, it has all the trappings of an idyllic break. But how about its beachfront counterpart? The Venetian Riviera nails bucket and spade holidays with a cherry on top, so you can’t beat it for a super September getaway.

Lido di Jesolo is the ideal place to flop down on the beach and relish a lazy day by the waves. With gelaterias and cafés handily nearby, you can easily refuel with a bite too. How about mixing up your days and checking out the local cycle routes, museums and delectable Italian restaurants?

The Algarve

This year-round region has got you covered in September. Beaches are quieter and there’s less hustle and bustle in the main resorts. Stretch out and sunbathe under the balmy sunshine and enjoy temperatures that are still rising into the high twenties and sometimes even thirties!

The conditions are perfect if you’re looking to get out and get active with some of the great activities on offer. From golf and sailing to hiking and snorkelling, the choice is yours!

Antalya Area

Turkey has a few holiday tricks up its sleeve, but the Antalya Area is by far one of the best. Its euphoric fusion of glittering beaches, Roman remnants and top-rated golf courses makes it stand out to all ages. How about a spot of retail therapy after sunning on the sands? Antalya is a top spot for shops, thanks to its roll call of souvenir stores, chic boutiques and brilliant bazaars.

And when it comes to where to stay, Lara Beach and Belek are two fantastic choices. Plus, as this region specialises in epic four and five-star hotel complexes, one of our All Inclusive stays would make life even simpler too.

Now you know where to go in September, start browsing our holidays!
