Want to whisk your other half away this winter? We’ve got you well and truly sorted, with a fab range of romantic destinations to choose from and some great tips for how to spend your time together. Whether it’s to mark an occasion or to simply tread new paths, we’ve got a few suggestions about where would tick your boxes.
There’s something special about snow-sprinkled cities, for sure, but a golden beach might be your ideal hangout spot. Not sure which takes your fancy most? Our roundup covers all bases, so you don’t have to fret yet if you’re totally out of inspiration.

1. Iceland
Set your sights on the Northern Lights this November or December. When you choose Iceland, you’ll be based in Reykjavík with a tour of the Aurora Borealis included in your booking. The three-hour trip to see this majestic natural wonder should see you crossing this off your bucket list.
When you aren’t gazing up at the sky, you could also book yourself a Blue Lagoon or Golden Circle adventure. It doesn’t get much more divine than dining in the city’s most renowned restaurants, exploring the exhibits at Perlan and buying souvenirs together at the flea market.

2. Paris
A wonderland of whimsy awaits in pretty Paris. It’s the croissant capital, known for its staggering Eiffel Tower and the flowing River Seine. If that’s not enough, your to-do list will be maxed-out with chic boutique shopping, gawping in galleries such as the Louvre and strolling hand in hand around Tuileries Garden.
To do Paris properly, challenge your other half to try snails. But if that seems somehow too tame, one of the most exquisite dining experiences can be had at La Tour d’Argent, a critically-acclaimed restaurant that was founded in 1582.

3. Vienna
The festivities really come into their own in Vienna. The palaces of Belvedere and Schönbrunn shine particularly bright, as they dress their extensive grounds and gardens with wintry stalls.
You’ll be enchanted as you pass ornate buildings, huge museums and galleries and sit down to taste Viennese coffee and a wedge of sachertorte in a time-honoured café.
4. Salzburg
Something of a snowglobe in looks, Salzburg flies the flag for authentic Austrian appeal. Its chocolate-box stalls at Christmastime shows that the city means business as the snow flurries.
Trace Mozart’s roots, visit the origin of the ‘Silent Night’ carol and check out the mighty Hellbrunn Palace. Refuel on classic schnitzel and rich game pies, all before finishing your day with a horse-drawn carriage ride.

5. Madeira
You’ll both be mad for Madeira, the Portuguese island famed for its lush levadas, luxurious afternoon teas and brilliant botanical gardens.
When you aren’t taking a cable car up to the top of the hillsides, potter around the capital of Funchal and soak up the atmosphere and architecture. There are various museums there and places to sample scabbardfish and the many types of passionfruit. How about a wine-tasting trip or hike to see the charming thatched houses in Santana?

6. Algarve
There’s plenty going on for couples during the winter in the Algarve. While one of you tees off on Vilamoura’s masterful golf courses, the other will have the ideal excuse to be pampered in the hotel spa. Sounds like the perfect compromise? We thought so too.
Regroup for lazy beachfront afternoons, walks around Vilamoura Marina and evenings out in bubbly Albufeira. Get set for a night of grilled sardines, Portuguese rosé and traditional music.

7. Lanzarote
Volcanic scenery is waiting to wow you both on a getaway to Lanzarote. Bonus – this captivating Canary Island boasts year-round warmth.
Timanfaya National Park should be top of your list, but that’s not it for showstoppers. Venture to see some of the quirky works designed by local legend, César Manrique. Jameos del Agua fuses art with nature, offering you a unique drinking and dining setting within a network of caves. Relax on the beaches of Papagayo, hike the Montana Roja, then enjoy a night on the tiles in Marina Rubicon.
Think you’ve decided on somewhere for this winter? Head to Jet2holidays to seal the deal now.
