Lazy beach days and poolside-perching not really your cup of tea? How about a sporty stay in Europe? Swap your cycling commute for coastal cruising, switch up your running route for a jogging jolly and get ready to tee-off in the sunshine. Here’s a round-up of our top-scoring destinations for those who like their holidays action-packed.
Majorca
This Balearic beauty has got a thrilling menu of activities on offer if you’d rather keep your downtime upbeat. In fact, Majorca’s lush landscapes and rugged coastlines are tailor-made for scenic stomping. Fancy a challenge? A trek up to Puig de Massanella, the island’s second highest peak, is sure to get the heart pumping. And the views from up here? Just wow. There are lots of half-day hikes too, like the 8km route from Sóller to the Mirador de Ses Barques viewpoint.
Prefer to explore on two wheels rather than two feet? You’re in luck, as this island’s home to a range of terrific terrains. There are some exceptional routes to try, from the serpentine stretch to Sa Calobra to the rollercoaster ride to Cap de Formentor. If a leisurely pedal’s more up your street, S’Albufera Natural Park’s largely flat, meaning you can whizz alongside the local wildlife with ease.
Majorca’s sun-flecked fairways are a real hole-in-one if you’d like to practice your putt on your next getaway. There are more than 20 courses to choose from, but Alcanada and Son Gual are two of the island’s most crowd-pleasing spots.

Meander along the coast and tick off cultural sites as you stroll. Stray inland and you’ll uncover areas of outstanding natural beauty. The Ria Formosa wetlands are a real highlight, navigate the island lagoons and marshes and don’t forget to look out for flamingos!
When it comes to gold star golfing holidays, the Algarve’s the star pupil. We’re talking tranquil surroundings, championship-level courses, and blue-sky backdrops.
