Plotting out the places you’d like to visit this year but need some inspiration? Well, why didn’t you say so? We caught up with some of our Content team to see where’s on their radar. Thanks to our ever-expanding map, there’s a destination to suit every type of traveller. So, we think it’s time to stop looking and get booking…
Gran Canaria and Iceland
Imogen Goulding, Senior Content Executive
With year-round rays, beautiful beaches and lovely landscapes, it’s no wonder Gran Canaria is such a hit for holidaymakers. Scratch beneath the sun-kissed surface and you’ll find culture-rich sights and dining delights are all part and parcel too. It’s no surprise then, that our Senior Content Executive Imogen is heading off to the island’s capital, Las Palmas, for a best-of-both-worlds break. Vegueta Market and various brightly coloured art galleries are yours to box off here, but when all’s said and done, it’s the shimmering shorefront of Playa de Las Canteras that’ll reel you in.
From sun-soaked beaches to snow-capped scenes, Iceland is next in her destination diary. Cinematic attractions like the Blue Lagoon and the Golden Circle are top of the agenda, as is a trip to try and spot the dazzling Northern Lights – which is included as part of our Discover More packages.
Malta
Sophie Gavins, Senior Content Executive
For Senior Content Executive Sophie, Malta’s on the map for 2024. Whether you’re an early-morning expeditioner or under-the-stars bar-hopper, this dinky isle’s a delight both day and night. When the sun’s risen on a new day, Mellieha brings beachfront bliss by the bucket (and spade) load! For after-dusk dinners and dancefloor anthems, swing by St Julian’s and Paceville where things go at one pace – and that’s fast.
Tenerife
Olivia Matthews, Content Executive
Between the waterfront in Playa De Las Americas and the mighty Siam Park, rainbow streets of Santa Cruz and stargazing spots at Mount Teide, Content Executive Olivia will be spoilt for choice in Tenerife. You can bank on sumptuously fresh seafood among the fine-dining spoils, alongside an array of ambient bars, chic shops and upmarket promenades. Some of the world’s best spas can be found here too.
Thinking of something different? The pop-ups known as guachinches are musts. You’ll come across them mainly in north Tenerife and they sell local food products and wine, so you can bank on a sensational yet modest sitting without a hefty price tag.
Salzburg and Porto
Louisa Brumfield, Content Executive
Content Executive Louisa is kicking off 2024 with a winter adventure in Zell am See, Austria. Easy access from Salzburg Airport and pinch-me panoramas across the lake and mountains are just the start of this resort’s draws. There’s 138km of slopes to conquer, including the opportunity for some high-altitude skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Back in town, a range of restaurants serve up local favourites like Kaiserschmarrn – a sweet, fluffy pancake served with a dollop of tangy apple sauce.
Later in the year, she’ll be swapping skiing for sightseeing in Porto. This culture-clad spot, famous for its azure azulejos (tiles) and tasty tipples is primed for a city break. Its compact size makes exploring a breeze, so cast your eyes upwards and admire the grand Gothic architecture. And how about those views from the Clerigos Tower?
Krakow
Elzbieta Voveryte, Content Assistant
If you’re looking for blue skies and sunshine on your next city break, follow the lead of Content Assistant Elzbieta and set your sights on Krakow this summer. Sunlit sightseeing, picturesque parks and exciting open-air events make this oh-so charming city sparkle even more than usual. It’s a place brimming with history, but it’s also bang up to date with its glossy shops, cool coffee bars and lively after-dark scene.
