What makes a Certified Sustainable Hotel?

Some of the properties we sell are classified as Certified Sustainable Hotels. Why? Let us talk you through what qualifies them as offering more responsible stays...

Sustainability is an incredibly important topic – especially in the world of holidays. So we’re keen to bring you on the journey with us, and part of that involves telling you all about our Certified Sustainable Hotels. These come in all shapes and sizes across a wide range of our destinations, and we're working with our hotel partners to grow the collection.

For starters, what is a Certified Sustainable Hotel?

Well, in terms of this line of properties, it means a hotel has been assessed by an independent organisation and it meets their standard for sustainability. There’s a range of hotel sustainability standards which you can find on ABTA’s official website. To achieve certification, the hotel receives regular inspections and has to show how they’re making changes to continue getting even better.

How does a hotel get certified?

A few of the must-do practices include:

  • Reducing energy, water and waste
  • Sourcing products locally
  • Supporting local communities
  • Using reusable, returnable and recycled products

How do we assist our hotel partners with this?

We're working with Green Key, one of the independent organisations that assesses a hotel’s sustainability performance. Through our partnership, we’re helping more and more of our hotel partners meet their standard for hotel sustainability so they can join our collection.

Whether it’s learning more about where our Certified Sustainable Hotels are on our ever-growing map, or reading up on our sustainability strategy, there’s plenty more detail on our website.
