Recently crowned as the first permanent female host of BBC Radio 1’s Drum & Bass Show, Charlie Tee’s broad knowledge of electronic dance music, broadcasting and DJing experience (spanning a whopping ten years) make her a truly unique act.

You can catch Charlie playing live at Hideout Festival in Croatia in June, and listen to her Drum & Bass Show on Radio 1 at 10pm every Saturday.

Here at VIBE, we couldn’t wait to sit down for a quick chat with her to catch up on all things music, festivals and radio shows...

Hi Charlie. For those who don’t know you, tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into music…

“Hi, I’m Charlie Tee and I host the Drum & Bass Show on Radio 1 every Saturday night.”

With summer just around the corner, what’s your events calendar looking like? We heard Hideout Festival’s on the cards… What will that be like?

“So, this summer’s looking pretty hectic for me, but I cannot wait, and I’ll absolutely love it. It will be my Hideout debut, which is pretty special as I’ve only been as a clubber, so it’s going to feel magical being on the other side of the decks.

You can also catch me at Parklife, Reading and Leeds, Tomorrowland, Boomtown and Glastonbury, to name a few.”

What are your all-time, classic summer tracks that you can’t live without?

“Shy FX – Feelings is one of my all-time faves. I can’t listen to it without imagining the sun shining on my face and a cold can in my hand.

Also, Layo & Bushwacka! – Love Story (vs. Finally) will always have a special place in my heart and always transports me straight back to Ibiza.”

What’s your favourite summer holiday destination? And why?

“It’s been Ibiza for years, but I'm really loving Croatia recently. Both feel like home with a great mixture of parties, but areas that are a bit more bohemian too.”

What are your summer holiday packing essentials?

“You’ve got to have a mini speaker. But also, a decent SPF and I’m currently obsessed with flavoured SPF lip balms which are peng for the beach.”

Would you rather play at a moonlit rooftop bar or a sun-soaked beach club?

“Oof both sound great, but let’s go beach club.”
