Ever dreamed of escaping to a Greek island where time slows down, the water sparkles in a dozen turquoise shades and your toughest decision is which taverna to try next? You're a match for Meganisi. Floating just off the coast of Lefkas, you’ll get there by hopping on the handy ferry from Nidri. Tempted? Here’s everything you need to know...

Where to stay
The harbourside village of Vathy is as postcard perfect as it gets. The waterfront is lined with cafés and restaurants, so you can plod down the promenade at your leisure. You’ll also be in prime position for exploring more of the island. How about a boat trip along the coast or a hike in the hills? The choice is yours! We also offer Jet2Villas in Spartochori. Think cobbled lanes, flower-draped balconies and a go-slow atmosphere. Though if the mood to explore strikes, you could set sail across to neighbouring Lefkas, where walking and water sports await.

The beaches
Meganisi’s beaches are tranquil and unspoilt, with clear waters and white pebbled shores that call for lazy days in the rays. Spilia Beach is one of the island’s most accessible and popular plots. The water is calm, clean and ideal for families. Plus, you walk here from Spartochori in around 15 minutes. How handy is that? On the southern coast, Fanari Beach offers plenty of space to spread out your towel. If you’re feeling peckish, order grilled fish from the beachside taverna. It’s caught just offshore!

What to do
While you could easily spend a week here simply soaking up the sunshine, there’s more to Meganisi than its beaches. A short boat ride from the island’s southern tip brings you to Papanikolis Cave, once used to hide submarines during WWII. Snorkelling and fishing are also on the agenda! Prefer to stay on land? There are a handful of lovely walking trails that will wind you through olive groves and along scenic cliffs. A popular route is the hike from Spartochori to Vathy. Bring your camera as you’ll be treated to sweeping views of the Ionian Sea and Lefkas en route.

What to eat
If your favourite thing about a holiday is the food, you’ve come to the right place. From piping-hot beef stifado to grilled octopus, home-cooked and holiday-worthy dishes are what’s in store. Errikos Taverna in Vathy is known for its seafood platters, stuffed vine leaves and house wine. Like a side of scenery with your meal? Head to Taverna Lakis in Spartochori and pull up a pew on the terrace. It’s especially beautiful come sunset.
