Paris, #5

Paris is at number five! So whoever said Paris is always a good idea was right, according to travellers on Tripadvisor. The croissant capital makes the perfect weekend getaway but there’s so much to do, so you might want to linger longer… Spend a relaxing day strolling along the Siene, visiting the many galleries and museums, including the full-day-required Louvre. Mealtimes will bring joy to foodies. French pastries make excellent mid-day pick-me-ups. For sunset, you’ve got multiple options. Climb up the Arc de Triomphe or head to Montmartre for views of the city. And as the Eiffel Tower starts twinkling, catch a risqué show at the Moulin Rouge!

Rome, #6

Rome takes number six… The Eternal City, as its name suggests, never goes out of style and 2026 won’t change that longstanding tradition. Sitting pretty at number six, Rome effortlessly blends its ancient history with classic Italian charm and renowned gastronomy. So this year is the perfect time to visit this fusion of bustling bazaars and terracotta wonders before it piques everyone’s interest. We can’t say we’re surprised that vibrant Marrakech, teeming with top sights and captivating culture, is elbowing its way to the top of travel recommendations. Need a bit of inspo? Start with a taste of authentic Morocco with a visit to Jemaa el-Fnaa, a square that sits at the heart of city. Then make your way to the exquisitely crafted Bahia Palace, the 16th century Saadian Tombs and the Koutoubia Mosque that dominates the skyline.

Crete, #9

Coming in strong at number nine is the biggest Greek isle, Crete. With a bit of partying here and a bit of beach lazing there, you’ve got an ‘everything’ holiday on your hands. The island boasts a rich tapestry of experiences, from its turquoise-lapped beaches to the steeped-in-tradition mountain villages. Foodies should savour the world-renowned local cuisine and make sure you show your history-loving fellow travellers the Minoan Palace of Knossos before the trip ends. Afternoons are for strolls along the bustling La Rambla before hitting the Gothic Quarter for a trip back in time. Hello Hurghada! Egypt is a brand new Jet2 destination, and coming in at number 19 on Tripadvisor’s list is Hurghada. Big on sunshine and scuba diving? You’ll feel right at home in Hurghada. Sprawling along Egypt’s Red Sea coast, this modern beachside region is best known for fly- and flop holidays, where you can enjoy turquoise water, endless coral reefs and fresh-off-the-boat seafood. Budapest #23 

The pearl of the Danube is new on Tripadvisor’s list this year at number 23, but as a long-standing city break destination for us, we’re not surprised. Budapest is split by the Danube River, it's a tale of two cities. On the UNESCO-stamped west side, amble through the tree-lined boulevards and cobbled streets of Buda and baroque buildings spring into view. Fisherman's Bastion, Matthias Church and Buda Castle will make you swoon. But that's just one part of this cosmopolitan city. After dark, over in the east, edgy Pest is the place to be. What are you in the mood for? Take your pick from quirky ruin pubs and underground clubs to rooftop terraces and cool cocktail bars.
