Tuscany

This is a place where rolling vineyards wrap terracotta towns, Renaissance splendour is splashed across its effortlessly elegant cities, and the coast shows off Italian style and then some. Farm-to-table foodies look no further, as dishes are all focused on olive oil, vegetables, cheese and meat, all sourced locally. The freshest ingredients with an Italian flair. Tuck into ribollita, a hearty soup made with bread and seasonal greens, or crostini di fegatini, a rustic chicken liver pâté on crusty bread. Seasonal flavours are at the heart of Tuscan recipes.

Majorca

Majorca promises rugged mountain peaks and lush countryside scenes to get lost in, but cosmopolitan living in Palma is not to be missed. And as for the beaches, there are more than 200. Across Majorca, farm-to-table food is very much on the menu. Restaurants love to focus on farm-led menus with local ingredients, and Majorca’s abundance of olive groves, vineyards, and citrus orchards, plus weekly markets brimming with produce, make this entirely possible. Pa amb oli – bread with olive oil, tomatoes and cured meats – showcases Majorcan flavours to a T. And tumbet, a vegetable dish layered with aubergine, potatoes and peppers, has that freshly-picked flavour.

Crete

As the largest of the Greek islands, it’s no surprise Crete’s got a lot going on. Adventure-ready mountains sit alongside a buzzy nightlife scene and ancient Minoan treasures. The food here is no different, with an authentic farm-to-table offering. Olive oil, honey, vegetables and herbs are all grown locally, and fresh flavours are at the forefront of Cretan cuisine. Local tavernas rely on nearby farms and take inspiration from seasonal produce. Delight in dishes like dakos, a barley rusk topped with tomatoes, olive oil, and local cheese, or lamb with stamnagathi (wild greens).

Algarve

The Algarve is trimmed by golden beaches, twinkling cobalt waters, and ochre-tinged cliffs. Portugal's dramatic south coast is a natural beauty, and the food embodies just that. With farm-to-table at the focus, a wealth of fresh seafood and citrus groves inland sit alongside seasonal vegetables, and simple recipes let these ingredients shine. Make sure to try cataplana de marisco (the fresh seafood catch of the day) and grilled sardines, a Portuguese staple. Or, if you’ve got a sweet tooth, indulge in a sweet fig or almond-based dessert.

Head to Andalusia and visit places like Seville or Malaga. Seville welcomes you with a balmy Mediterranean climate – it’s all about traditional tapas bars and flamenco dancing. Malaga is a seaside city full of life, and as the birthplace of Picasso, you can imagine food is art here. Olive oil is at the heart of every dish in these Andalusian cities, and tapas dishes are built around local and seasonal produce. Outdoor markets offer up the freshest bites. Taste gazpacho or salmorejo, cold soups made with ripe, sweet tomatoes, or pescaíto frito (fried fish). And of course, salty jamón ibérico is always on the menu!
