The resort

Tignes is made up of five villages, all at different altitudes. Each one has its own vibe, from Val Claret’s buzzing bars to the traditional charm of Les Brévières. If you want to be close to the action but in a quieter spot, Tignes 1800 is a fab option. Lots of the accommodation is ski-in, ski-out, so you can go from snoozing to the slopes in no time. Travelling with tots? Le Lavachet is a popular pick, thanks to the laidback atmosphere and array of bars, restaurants and shops. Want to be in the heart of the action? Le Lac will you put you front and centre.

The slopes

Together with Val d’Isère, this ski area lays on the lot for everyone, from skiers to boarders, first timers to freestylers. For beginners, the first few days are usually spent cautiously navigating down nursery slopes, whizzing up the magic carpet and doing it all over again. It’s ideal then that all the villages have their own beginner area, so finding somewhere to practice is a doddle. Once you’ve graduated to the blues, head for Combe, accessed from the top of the Palafour chairlift. This gentle run is a perfect confidence-builder. Intermediates will love zooming down the Glacier red, while experts can test their mettle on one of Europe’s longest blacks. Boarder? There’s plenty for you to get stuck into! Pros often use Tignes as a training base and when you clock the off-piste options and snow parks, you’ll soon see why.

The après

When the lifts close for the day, you’ve got choices, choices and more choices when it comes to off-slope activities. Cocorico Après Ski is one of the top spots, with a daily happy hour, beer pong and live music. Grizzly’s Bar is also well worth a visit. Here, evenings are spent snuggling up by the log fire and reminiscing about your favourite runs over a vin chaud. Savoyard specialties are the star of the show in many of the restaurants and Le Panoramic is the place to be if you’re after stunning views. And if all that wasn’t enough to keep you occupied, there’s snowmobiling, sledging and so much more.
