For a family holiday filled with fun, activities and sunshine, there aren’t many better places than the Costa Blanca. This coastal region in southern Spain has long been a favourite for holidaymakers. That’s especially the case in Benidorm and Alicante, where you’ll find the biggest choice of attractions for families.
To make things easier when you visit, we’ve picked some of the top family activities in the Costa Blanca, so you’ll be in the know before you go!
1. Alicante tram
What a fun way to explore the Costa Blanca! Simply hop on this tram for connections to Alicante, Benidorm, Terra Mítica theme park, Benissa, Calpe and more. Along the way, you’ll enjoy some stunning sea views. And don’t worry – you can change the language to ‘English’ for buying tickets at the machine and stations are clearly signposted.
2. Terra Mítica theme park
This large theme park is always a popular choice for families. Based in Benidorm and with an inventive mythological theme, it has a huge range of rides for all ages. That includes the white-knuckle drop tower, The Flight of the Phoenix, and more sedate boat rides and gondolas for your youngests.
3. Rio Safari Park
This zoo close to Alicante and Elche has many different exotic animals in natural habitats. You’ll have the chance to get close to tigers, giraffes and chimpanzees. Next, sit on a train for the safari experience as you pass by zebras, buffaloes and more.
4. Algar Waterfalls
This stunning beauty spot is a can’t-miss attraction wherever you’re staying on the Costa Blanca. The entrance fees for the park are excellent value, so it makes the perfect family day out. You’ll then follow a footpath that takes in the series of stunning, cascading waters within this lush nature reserve. There are several steps along the path, but there’s a balcony railing to hold on to if it’s slippery!
5. Aqualandia
One of the biggest waterparks in Spain, there are no less than 15 attractions at Aqualandia. That includes one of Europe’s highest slides! If you’re feeling brave, Vertigo plunges 33m, reaching speeds of up to 100kmph! Luckily, there are more relaxing rides, such as Zig Zag and Splash, and you can also enjoy the Wave Pool and Niagara area. The sunbeds, snack bar and pizzeria across the park mean you can spend the whole day here with your family.
6. Castillo de Santa Barbara
Want to take in the best views in Alicante? Simply make your way to the top of Castillo de Santa Barbara. The castle is perched atop Mount Benacantil and actually dates as far back as the 9th century. To save the strain on your legs you can even take a lift to the top. Either way, you’ll be rewarded with views of the harbour and stunning seafront horizon.
7. DinoPark
Based in the Cactus Algar Garden near Benidorm, the DinoPark boasts huge robotic models of dinosaurs along with plenty of fun attractions for families. Visit the 3D cinema to discover more about the creatures that roamed the earth millions of years ago. There’s also the Journey to Earth’s Past centre that has artefacts from ancient eras, and a playground based around palaeontology for mini-explorers!
8. Tabarca
A visit to Tabarca makes an exciting day trip during family holidays on the Costa Blanca. This tiny islet is surrounded by a marine reserve due to its crystal clear waters and abundance of sea life. Stop by at Tabarca beach and find out more about the history of the island, which was once a stop off point for Barbary pirates, before settling down at an authentic restaurant by the seafront.
Whether it’s action-packed days out at a waterpark or authentic evenings you’re after, there's something with your name on it, thanks to our partners at Musement.
