3. Marmaris National Park

Love getting outdoors? Spend a day at Marmaris National Park, where you’ll find more than 30 hectares of pure bliss. This dense forest is packed with Turkish pine trees, sweetgum, eucalyptus, stone pine and cypress trees that provide welcome shade on a hot summer’s day.

As well as the huge variety of plants and flowers, there are also wild animals that call this national park home, including goats, boars, red falcons, lynx and bears. Make the most of the risen wooden platforms dotted throughout the park and see if you can spot any local wildlife. Towards the edge of the forest, there’s a small shingle beach if you fancy a dip. 4. Marmaris Marina

Just a few minutes’ walk from the resort centre, this upscale marina is the perfect place to spend a day exploring in the sun. You’ll find an impressive variety of shops and bars lining each side of the harbour, which provide some of the best spots for watching the world go by. Observe local fishing boats and luxury yachts travel in and out of the marina, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a giant cruise ship, too.

By day, wander the promenade and pick up a cone of tasty ice cream, and by night, dine al fresco in one of the many waterfront restaurants. Seafood is the speciality, so order the catch of the day for some of the freshest fish in the country!

5. Dalyan

A day trip to the fascinating town of Dalyan is a must if you’re staying in Marmaris. Enjoy a boat ride along the calm river creeks and pass the Tombs of the Kings that have been carved into the rockface.

Along Lake Köycegiz, you’ll reach the Sultaniye sulphuric pools which are known for helping to boost your health. Plus, if it’s healing powers you want (or just plain fun), the adjacent mud bath is the perfect choice.

The dramatic Iztuzu Beach juts out into the Mediterranean Sea and acts as a barrier between the sea water and the fresh water of the Dalyan River. It’s also a natural nesting ground for the loggerhead turtle - you can learn about the species at the beach’s research, rescue and rehab centre.
