Things to buy

Alsatian handicrafts

Colmar is known for its beautiful handmade wooden toys, nativity figurines, ceramic pottery and beautiful glass ornaments. These traditional crafts make meaningful souvenirs and festive decorations to take home.

Traditional food

Sample local specialties like bredele biscuits, gingerbread, kougelhopf cake (brioche-style cake) and salty pretzels. Don’t miss tasty Alsace sausages, cheese and tarte flambée (traditional flatbread) too.

Mulled wine

Warm up with a cup of vin chaud, the region’s classic mulled wine infused with cinnamon, citrus and spices. Many stalls offer their own unique twist on this festive favourite.

Top tips

Dress for the weather

Colmar can be cold in winter, so bring warm layers, a coat, scarf, gloves and comfortable walking shoes!

Visit early or late

The markets can get busy, especially in the afternoon and evening. So, if you’re looking for a quieter experience, explore early in the morning or later at night!

Bring some cash

Most stalls accept card, but it’s wise to carry some cash for smaller artisanal purchases, street food or charming decorations at the more traditional market stalls.

Explore all the markets

Colmar has several markets across the Old Town, including Place des Dominicains, Place de l’Ancienne Douane and La Petite Venise – each with its own charm, so don’t miss the hidden gems!
