So, you’ve decided you want to head to the mountains this winter? We don’t blame you! With great-value Jet2 flights, you can unlock some of Europe’s best slopes. Ready to start whittling down where you want to go? These runs are best for boarders...
The Stash, Avoriaz, France
Fly into Geneva Airport
Designed by Burton using obstacles crafted from dead wood from the sounding forest, the Stash is a rite of passage for anyone visiting the Portes du Soleil area. It weaves through the trees for around 1.3km and is studded with natural jumps, kickers, rails and so much more. It’s easy to reach from the resort centre and accessed from the Lindarets chair lift.
Jandri, Les Deux Alpes, France
Fly into Grenoble Airport
If maxing out your mileage is key when settling on your snowboarding spot, then the Jandri run in Les Deux Alpes is just the ticket. It runs for 16km, from the glacier at 3,200m to the resort at 1,650m. It’s labelled a blue, so groups of mixed abilities can whizz down it together. There are plenty of mountain restaurants en route too, perfect when you need a pick-me-up.
Kandahar, St. Anton, Austria
Fly into Innsbruck Airport
Kandahar (Black 52 on your piste map), is one for the seasoned shredders. As blacks go, it’s not that steep, so it’s great if you want to build your confidence. Top tip – head here in the morning! It can get quite mogully by the afternoon. There’s also the option to hop in the Galzig gondola back down to town if you’d prefer.
Fred Covili, Les Menuires, France
Fly into Chambery Airport
Part of the mammoth Three Valleys ski area, Les Menuires is a purpose-built resort that has plenty to offer boarders. Among the terrific terrain, Fred Covili is a top pick. Named after a local ski champion, it provides nearly 2.5km of riding perfection. To reach it, simply take the Pointe de la Masse gondola from the resort centre. Make sure to soak up the knockout views at the top!
La Combe du Vallon, Méribel, France
Fly into Chambery Airport
Kicking off at nearly 3,000m at the highest point in the Méribel Valley, La Combe du Vallon delivers on dramatic scenery. On a clear day, you’ll be able to see the Parc National de la Vanoise, as well as picturesque peaks across France, Italy and Switzerland. The lofty altitude means great conditions are all but guaranteed too. You’ll descend over 1,000m as you whizz down from the summit.
Red 7, Cervinia, Italy
Fly into Turin Airport
Another thigh-burner to add to your list, piste number 7 winds all the way from Plateau Rosa, at nearly 3500m, back to the village. With curves, flats, and a range of gradients, it’s challenging and enjoyable in equal measure. About halfway down, you can veer off and try some of the other reds towards Valtourneche. The resort is linked to Zermatt in Switzerland, but it’s worth noting the run that connects the two is quite flat, so you may need to unclip.
