Staying safe when travelling as a group

We’ve teamed up with the FCDO’s Travel Aware campaign to give you some handy tips on staying safe when travelling as a group! Keep reading to find out more...

Whether you’re heading on your first holiday with your mates or bringing the extended family together, travelling as a group is a great way to create memories that’ll last a lifetime. But it can also mean juggling different tastes, timetables and budgets. With a little extra planning, you can keep things running smoothly and make sure everyone gets the most out of the trip.

Check out the FCDO’s Travel Aware campaign ‘Stick with your Mates’ below and find out all the ways to have a safe, stress-free trip to remember.

1. Mates that party together, leave together

Hitting the town? Make sure you stick with your group throughout the night. And if you’re staying at the same accommodation, go home together.

2. Keep an eye on your drinks

It goes without saying – don’t leave your drinks unattended and don’t accept drinks from strangers.

3. Share your live location

Share your location with your travel buddies and use messaging apps like WhatsApp, so everyone can keep in touch if someone gets lost. It might even be worth creating a holiday group chat!

4. Keep your hotel address on you

It can be harder than you think to find your hotel, especially at night. Take a screenshot of your hotel’s address or keep an address card in your wallet – it avoids confusion if you’re hopping in a taxi too.

5. Agree a back-up meeting point

It’s easy to get lost in a foreign country so familiarise yourself with the area and agree a meeting point in case you lose your group.
