There are ski resorts, and then there are places that feel like they’ve been plucked straight out of a snow globe. Saas-Fee in Switzerland is firmly in the latter category. Surrounded by towering 4,000m peaks and blessed with one of the most reliable snow records in the Alps, this car-free village lays on the lot. But Saas-Fee isn’t just about postcard perfection. From efficient lift systems to glacier skiing that stretches out the season, it caters to everyone. Tempted? Ski trips here start with Jet2.com flights to Geneva Airport. And with 10kg hand luggage included and the option to add 22kg ski carriage and hold baggage*, jetting off couldn’t be easier.

The resort

What sets Saas-Fee apart is its atmosphere. The village is entirely car-free, which means you step into a quieter world of electric taxis, snowy lanes and traditional chalets. Accommodation options here ranges from luxurious spa hotels to cosy family-run lodges, many with ski-in, ski-out convenience. Practicality is woven into the resort’s design, with well-connected lifts that make accessing the slopes straightforward, even during busy periods. The high altitude, reaching up to 3,600m on the glacier, means snow reliability is exceptional too. Non-skier? Winter walking trails wind through forests, plus, you can enjoy glacier views at over 3,000m. Add in activities like sledging and spa experiences, and you’ll soon see why it’s a hit for families, couples and solo travellers alike.

The slopes

The majority of the 100km ski area is over 2,500m high. First time on the slopes? Make your way to the Stafelwald beginner area, close to the town centre. Once you’ve built up your confidence, the blues in the Morenia area are your best bet. This resort really comes into its own for intermediates. If you want to clock up the kilometres, head up to Allalin, the highest point, and make your way back to town on the mix of blues and reds. There are some great reds on Hohsaas too, with the lower section snaking through the forest back to Saas-Grund. There’s also a handful of black runs on the piste map and if you’re confident off-piste, hire a guide and hit explore mode. Freestylers can test their mettle at the Morenia Freestyle Park too, packed with obstacles for all abilities.

The après

Food plays a central role in Saas-Fee's après-ski scene, and the local cuisine reflects the traditions of the Valais region. Expect rich, comforting dishes designed for cold mountain days: bubbling cheese fondue, raclette scraped generously onto potatoes and air-dried meats that pair perfectly with a glass of local wine. When it comes to drinks, Black Bull Snowbar is where the party starts. Later on, places like Popcorn! Bar bring the buzz, with music and cocktails.
