In the heart of Austria’s SalzburgerLand, wrapped in alpine charm and crowned with panoramic peaks, lies Saalbach-Hinterglemm. This vast, snow-covered playground offers more than 270km of interconnected pistes. Whether you’re learning your first turns, chasing steeps descents or simply soaking up the scenery, you can do it all here. And with handy Jet2.com ski flights to nearby Salzburg Airport, plus the option to add 22kg hold baggage and ski carriage*, your next mountain milestone is on the cards!
The resorts
With traditional Austrian village charm and contemporary comforts, Saalbach-Hinterglemm boasts the best of both worlds. Wooden chalets line the streets, yet everything’s seamlessly modern beneath the surface. The two main villages of Saalbach and Hinterglemm sit just a few minutes apart. Saalbach is lively and sociable, with colourful shops and abundant après-ski activities. Hinterglemm is quieter and a popular pick for families. High-speed gondolas, wide ski-in, ski-out access and efficient lift connections make getting around a doddle. Beyond these hubs, the area connects to Leogang and Fieberbrunn. Fieberbrunn is known for its freeride terrain, while Leogang offers scenic cruising. Non-skier? Winter hiking trails criss-cross the valley, with stunning viewpoints accessible by gondola. The Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps and the Baumzipfelweg treetop walk provide a uniquely scenic adventure above the forest. There’s also tobogganing, horse-drawn sleigh rides and wellness centres.
The slopes
Beginners will feel at home in Saalbach-Hinterglemm’s gentle learning zones. The nursery slopes near Hinterglemm’s base are nice and wide, ideal for the first slides and snowplough turns. Once you’re ready to progress, the long blue runs from Bernkogel and Kohlmais are confidence-boosting faves. Intermediates will be in their element too. The classic circuit route lets you ski the whole valley in a loop, exploring Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn in one thrilling day. The red runs from Zwölferkogel and Schattberg are top choices too, so add them to your itinerary. Bit of a pro? The Schattberg Nord black run is a steep, thrilling descent, while mogul-fans will enjoy the bumps beneath Zwölferkogel.
The après
This valley is famous for having some of the best après in Austria, so bring your dancing shoes, as well as your ski boots! Kick-start your afternoon on the mountain at spots like Hinterhag Alm or Bauer’s Schi-Alm, where live bands and DJs get the energy flowing as the sun dips behind the peaks. Down in the villages, bars such as Goaßstall, Eva Alm and Monti’s keep the atmosphere going with music, warm drinks, cocktails and cosy alpine décor. Hinterglemm tends to be more subdued and stylish, while Saalbach leans into the classic, lively ski-party vibes.
