Sun-soaked terraces, trendy wine bars, neon-lit nightclubs... you’re never far from a party in Porto. We’ve hunted down the best after-dark locales, so pop on your dancing shoes and come with us.
Torto
This jewel in the city’s bar crown is located in a Moorish-inspired building. A huge mural from a Lisbon-based street art collective scores it some more cool points, as do the expertly crafted cocktails. If you’re feeling peckish, there’s a fab food menu too.
Miradouro Ignez
Come sunset, there are few places better to enjoy a crisp glass of vino than Miradouro Ignez. Grab a table on the outdoor terrace and watch as boats chug up and down the Douro River.
Meridians & Parallels
Reasonably priced and imaginative cocktails are this bar’s bread and butter. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable and there’s a slate on the counter, which is updated with drink suggestions daily. An added bonus — there’s often live music on the weekend.
Musa das Virtudes
Craft beer fan? You’ve landed in the right place. They have 15 types on tap, eight of which are their own brand. Pair your pint with a sandwich or burger and wait for the vibe to kick up a gear as it gets later.
The Gin House
The clue’s in the name at this sophisticated spot. With over 150 gins to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice. It’s in prime bar-hopping territory, so work your way down the menu, then head on to the next.
Café Candelabro
Since it opened its doors in 2009, this has become a fave among locals for a post-work drink and natter. Portuguese wine is the star of the show, as well as the grilled sandwiches. There’s even an in-house bookshop, where you can pick up a second-hand read.
Capela Incomum
Sure, from the outside it might just look like a 19th-century chapel, but inside, you’ll find a quirky wine bar. All wines come with a tasting guide, so you can learn a little bit about what you’re sipping. Order a charcuterie board to savour alongside it and admire the interesting furnishings.
Mirajazz
Head down here on a Saturday and Sunday for live jazz performances. When it comes to drinks, all wines are Portuguese, and you can buy them by the bottle or glass. And if all that wasn’t enough to tempt you, the scenic setting overlooking the river just might.
Top tips: The city’s packed with buzzy bars and restaurants but the Ribeira neighbourhood offers the best variety. Make a beeline for Galeria de Paris and Rua de Cândido dos Reis for something to suit every taste and budget.
