Nightlife guide to Jerez

Jerez is a haven of rooftop bars, flamenco shows and venues for sherry tastings. Read our nightlife guide to help you start planning your evenings.

Superbly Spanish Jerez is a city overflowing with life – especially after dark. While it’s rich in history and tradition, nights out here can be exactly what you make of them, with modern cocktail menus and chic sherry flights ruling the roost. Whether you’re jetting straight there or holidaying in the Costa de la Luz, you can play things your way when the stars come out and the clock strikes wine PM.

Here’s the lowdown on where to go, if you need a hand finding the nightlife scene for you...

The rooftop bars

Reaching new heights in Jerez is a doddle, as there’s a modest handful of gorgeous rooftop bars to get dolled up for. Painting the town red never looked so good – especially at be-seen-here spots like Astuto. The hotel has its own upper-floor, open-air terrace, where you’ll find a romantic yet trendy vibe sets the pace. And you’ll be pretty taken with the live music, themed events and cocktail menu too. Keep your eyes peeled around the city for more watering holes almost in the clouds.

The pubs and clubs

In Jerez, the pub and club scenes are quite low-key. Trade in the neon-lit for jazz hits and you won’t go far wrong. Of course, you can pair your tipple-sipping with feasting by going to a tapas bar and enjoying morsels with your vino, margs or martinis, but there are drinks-only options too. These tend to be locally known as tabancos – basically, the sherry-pouring places. The richest, fruitiest sweet wines are yours to savour the flavours of, and they’re particularly great if you’re eager to try a few and find a fave. There are lots of popular picks to swill your sherry and swot up on your knowledge, plus historical joints such as Tabanco El Pasaje, which opened its doors in 1925! Simply pull up a pew on your own terms or, if you’re eager to learn the ropes, book a tasting and let the pros guide your taste buds. A grape time is guaranteed...

The flamenco shows

A night out with a hip-shaking difference is on the cards when you book to see one of Jerez’s most traditional and iconic displays – a flamenco show. Many intimate settings and larger venues put on evenings of captivating live dance, where flowing costumes and clacking castanets will totally reel you in. And some of these performances include meals, which means you can watch in awe over a plate of lip-smacking local food.
