Chic beach bars? Rooftop terraces? Dance-until-dawn nightclubs? The queen of the French Riviera, Nice, is packed with bars to suit your every mood. These party postcodes should be top of your itinerary…

1. Cave de la Tour
Join the locals for a chinwag at this buzzing wine cellar and restaurant, which is one of the oldest in Nice. You can pull up a pew outside on the terrace or congregate around the bar. It’s the perfect place to sample some fine vintages and little-known regional tipples. Bottoms up!
2. Au Fut et à Mesure
If you’re pining after a pint, you’ll love this self-service spot. Each table comes with its own pump, so you can drink as much as you like, without ever having to leave your seat! There’s a fantastic range of beers to choose from and you settle up using a prepaid card.
3. Master Home
When your watch strikes cocktail o’clock, Master Home is the place to be. There’s indoor seating available but do as the locals do and try and bag a space on the outdoor terrace. Come at happy hour to get more merriment for your money!
4. Le Shapko
Tucked-away down Rue Rossetti, Le Shapko likes things loud. Live music is this venue’s forte, with bands performing every night. Jazz is the focus, but everything from samba to rock is played here. The outdoor space is a people-watching plot, while inside’s dedicated to dancing.
5. Farago on the Roof
You can reach new heights at this rooftop bar, perched on top of the AC Hotel Nice by Marriott. Expect 360° views, mouth-watering Mediterranean morsels and expertly crafted cocktails. Open from May to September, it’s a real summer showstopper.

6. Les Distilleries Idéales
Within skipping distance of Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate, this dinky bar is full of character. Snap up a table on the pavement terrace, then take your pick of the draught beers. Feeling peckish? Order a charcuterie and cheese platter to nibble on, sit back and soak up the relaxed atmosphere.
7. La Boulisterie
A bar dedicated to pétanque (boules)… does it get more French than that? You’ll find it in Rue Lascaris, an up-and-coming district, which hums with activity day and night. After a cocktail or two, head to the indoor boules pitch and hone your skills. Music has a sixties slant, with nothing played post-1989!
8. Wayne’s Bar
When only a good old-fashioned pub will do, point your dancing feet in the direction of Wayne’s Bar. It’s a popular place to catch the sport, with everything from boxing to darts shown on the big screens. There’s regular live music and DJ sets for the night owls too.
9. Waka Bar
A firm favourite with locals and tourists alike, you can swan straight from sun-lounging to sangria-sipping at this beachfront bar. Trust us, its knockout views across the Mediterranean are worth the trip alone! Here, it’s all about chilled vibes during the day and an electric atmosphere come evening, with local DJs spinning the decks until the early hours.
10. Movida
Searching for the best spot for a sundowner? Et voilà, you’ve found it! Make a beeline for the second-floor terrace overlooking the Promenade des Anglais, and drink in those views. Tasty tapas is on the menu and cocktails are an umbrella-and-sparkler affair. And it’s no surprise that a bar with a name which translates as ‘movement’ in Spanish, is big on boogying!
