The food

Ah, food, glorious food! It’s full of it here. So whether you’re a meat eater, pescatarian, veggie or vegan, you’ll keep rumbling tums at bay throughout the day with oodles of culinary choice.

Like what you feast on in the restaurants? That’s a no-brainer. Extend those memorable mealtimes by stocking up on sumptuous souvenirs for your fridge, pantry and kitchen cupboards. You’ll find that most towns in the area sell all the usual goodies in various stores, so you shouldn’t have trouble getting your newfound faves in the bag.

The biggie is pasta. It comes in all shapes and sizes and, you guessed it – you can even source some that’s been made with lemon! So all that’ll be left to do is download the recipes you fancy whipping up and you can deliver a dishful of Sorrento to your table!

Naturally, olive oil is at the core of stacks of the cooking here, so procuring the most decadent, drizzle-worthy bottles is a must. And you won’t have to traipse far and wide for truffle oil either. Win-win!

Joyful jars go beyond jams and honeys – how about going down the pickled or sundried route? Tomatoes are the obvious chomp-able champions, and no dinner party worth its salt starts without juicy olives as canapés, so don’t forget those. Then it doesn’t get cheesier than burrata – the most melt-in-your-mouth mozzarella on the block – while pancetta is the finest cured pork in Italy.

Calling all sweet tooths! Candied lemons, pistachio-stuffed nougat, almond biscuits and paste-like, hazelnutty gianduja chocolate are all superbly sugary, safe bets for you.

The drink

Those visiting Italy usually grapple for the grappa when they’re on the lookout for drinks cabinet spirits. It’s a type of brandy made from the leftovers of grapes after the wine production’s finished, so believe us, it’s strong! If you’d prefer something fully flavoursome and local, then limoncello’s the tipple for you. Though it’s not a tame aperitif, it’s overpoweringly lemony and it’s very much the drink of the Amalfi Coast. It’d be rude not to secure a bottle (or two).

Equally, you can opt for a more indulgent twist on the classic limoncello by buying the cream liqueur version, cremoncello. Clever. Not as keen on citruses? Don’t tell the locals, but that’s fine by us, as you’ll be able to get your hands on plenty of other alternatives, including chocolate, pistachio and orange variants. Cin cin!

The knick-knacks

As we can all agree, it wouldn’t really be a getaway without sneaking some souvenirs in the suitcase. These streets are adorned with shops rich in ceramics to purchase. From navy to sunburnt red, turquoise to reddish-brown, decorated bowls and plates are big business here – and they’re cute as anything. Just be sure to wrap them up in items of clothing when you come to journey home, if bubble wrap wasn’t provided.

For the fashionistas, it’s time to ditch the comfy trainers for at least a bit of your trip, in favour of some stylish sandals! There are lots of makers of these open-toed leather beauties here, so why not pick up a pair with coloured straps that go with your holiday wardrobe?

There’s simply no avoiding lemons in Sorrento – they're quite literally everywhere, and that’s just how the cookie crumbles when you’re on the hunt for gifts too. A whole host of lemon-related items and garments will be on display for you to choose from – we're talking festival-worthy bucket hats, kitsch aprons, handy spoon rests, zesty bars of soap and more. Go on... you know you want to.

And remember – you’ll have 22kg baggage included in your package when you book a Jet2holiday, so you’ll be able to save a little suitcase space for these Sorrento souvenirs!
