1. The Crown (2022)

Charles and Diana can be seen whizzing across the sparkling turquoise waters in their glamorous speedboat in season five. But did you know, those scenes were actually filmed in the glitzy Port Andratx area of Majorca?

It’s thought they were recreating a family holiday the pair took in the 1990s with their children, William and Harry, which the press referred to at the time as their ‘second honeymoon’. And the location is certainly fit for royalty! A-listers flock to Port Andratx year after year to enjoy the picturesque promenade, boutique-style shops and yacht-topped waters.

2. The Night Manager (2016)

The island featured heavily in the 2016 series, The Night Manager, starring Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman and Tom Hiddleston. Several scenes were filmed in Palma Bay and Puerto Soller, but the most iconic backdrop was the impressive La Fortaleza on the headland at Puerto Pollensa. The fortress acted as the residence for the main character, Richard Roper, and boasts manicured gardens, a fabulous pool and uninterrupted ocean views.

A dramatic dining scene also took place in Deia, where Roper’s little boy was kidnapped. In real life, this unforgettable location is a charming seafood restaurant called Ca’s Patro March, and overlooks a stunning cove, only accessible by foot. The hike down from Deia takes you past idyllic lemon groves and chirping crickets, but the area tends to get quite busy, so we’d recommend arriving early to get a spot.

3. Me Before You (2016)

Another production that showcased some of the island’s finest features was the 2016 film, Me Before You, starring Game of Thrones stars Emelia Clarke and Charles Dance. The movie saw the main characters jetting off to Mauritius, but what you may not know is that these scenes were actually filmed in Majorca – more specifically, Cala Formentor.

The paradise of snow-white sands and crystal waters made one of Majorca’s most enchanting beaches an ideal location for filming. It’s backed by an emerald pine forest too, so it was the perfect dupe for the tropical island of Mauritius. The flight time is much shorter too, so it’s a win-win!

4. Cloud Atlas (2012)

The likes of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugh Grant touched down on the idyllic island to shoot the action-packed sci-fi, Cloud Atlas. Locations included the breathtaking mountains of Sa Calobra, spectacular Puerto Soller, and the oh-so-popular Cala Formentor.

The budget for the film was a whopping $100 million, making it one of the most expensive independent films of all time. Unfortunately, Halle Berry suffered a broken foot whilst filming in the hills around Puerto Soller, so the crew had to use a body double for some of her scenes.

5. The Inbetweeners Movie (2011)

Teen comedy series, The Inbetweeners, made its way onto the big screen in 2011, when the mayhem-packed movie was released. The makers of the film were looking for a location that would capture the neon nightlife of Malia in Crete, so they settled on vibrant Magalluf.

The infamous resort provided the perfect party backdrop, with the buzzy strip featuring in a number of scenes. Most of the footage, however, was shot in the cooler month of February, so the cast had to grin and bear the cold waters as their characters frolicked in the ocean.
