The resort

The resort itself has Italian flair to spare. It’s compact and walkable, boasting a chic pedestrianised centre lined with designer shops, cosy cafés and elegant hotels. Expect to see skiers stepping straight off the slopes into the village — the lifts connect directly from the centre, making it easy to ski straight to your doorstep. The resort’s infrastructure is superbly maintained and modern, yet its alpine charm remains intact. Think timber chalets with flowered balconies and plenty of family-run trattorias. When it comes to snoozing spots, accommodation ranges from luxurious five-star spa hotels to welcoming boutique lodges. Getting there is also remarkably easy, as Verona Airport’s around two and a half hours away.

The slopes

Madonna di Campiglio is part of the vast SkiArea Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta, linked with Pinzolo and Folgarida-Marilleva. So, while the town itself feels small, the winter playground it opens onto is anything but. In fact, you’ll have access to over 150km of connected pistes, from cruisy blues to pulse-raising blacks. Beginners will love the gentle slopes near Campo Carlo Magno, they’re nice and wide — perfect for practicing those first turns. For intermediates, there’s lots of varied terrain, spanning steep reds and scenic forest descents. Bit of a thrill-seeker? Try the Canalone Miramonti, where the Alpine Ski World Cup night slalom takes place each January. The Spinale Direttissima and Amazzonia pistes also deliver adrenaline in spades, while the Grostè glacier area offers high-altitude snow-sure skiing. Snowboarders and freestyle fans won’t want to miss the Ursus Snowpark — one of Europe’s top-ranked spots, with jumps and rails that attract riders from across the Alps. And if all that wasn’t enough, the lift connections to Pinzolo provide even more to explore.

The après

When the lifts close, the resort shifts gears. Après here is more refined than rowdy, less dancing on tables and more catching up with friends over a spritz. Start the afternoon at Ober 1 Après Ski, just by the Spinale lift, where skiers spill out onto the terrace. Then, move to the village centre for aperitivo hour. Foodies will be in their element too. Michelin-starred Dolomieu adds a modern twist to mountain ingredients, while Ristorante Antico Focolare serves up wood-fired pizza and alpine comfort food. For something special, ski to a mountain rifugio, like Rifugio Viviani Pradalago, and dine by candlelight before returning to the village by snowcat.
