Tucked into the northern French Alps between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, Les Gets is a resort that’s firmly on our radar. It forms part of the vast Portes du Soleil area, so you’ll never be short of slopes. And with handy Jet2 flights to nearby Geneva Airport, 10kg hand luggage included and the option to add up to 22kg hold baggage and ski carriage*, jetting off is as easy as one, two, ski...
The resort
One of the first things you’ll notice about Les Gets is its authentic alpine atmosphere. Wooden chalets cluster along quiet streets, a church steeple rises above the rooftops and the surrounding mountains frame the village in every direction. Much of the resort can be explored on foot, which means mornings are less about complicated logistics and more about stepping outside and heading straight for the slopes. Ski buses circulate regularly around the village as well. Modern lifts quickly whisk skiers and boarders up into the mountains, particularly from the Chavannes and Mont Chéry sides of the resort. Plus, the connection with nearby Morzine opens up even more terrain.
The slopes
With gentle nursery areas, long cruisy pistes and daring descents higher up the mountain, the resort caters to every level. For beginners, the Chavannes sector provides the perfect starting point. The nursery slopes sit conveniently close to the village and are designed to help newbies build their confidence. There are also lots of reds for intermediates to get stuck into. Many of these wind through scenic, forested areas, creating a storybook skiing experience. And can venture beyond Les Gets itself, skiing over towards Morzine to explore the wider Portes du Soleil network. For piste pros, the Mont Chéry side of the resort offers steeper slopes and tends to be noticeably quieter. Non-skier? Meander your way along snowshoe trails, take scenic lift rides for breathtaking views or try sledging for a dose of adrenaline.
The après
When the lifts begin to close and the last skiers glide back towards the village, Les Gets’ bars and restaurants start to fill up. Take the opportunity to tuck into some traditional Savoyard cuisine, like fondue and raclette. Nothing beats sharing melted cheese, fresh bread and good wine after a long day. One of the most popular spots to start the evening is L’Aprèski Bar, located right at the bottom of the slopes beside the Hôtel Bellevue. If you prefer cosy vibes, Bar Bush is a firm fave with both locals and visitors. Tucked along Rue du Centre, this small but energetic pub is known for its friendly crowd, sports screenings and weekly quiz nights.
