Think you know Lanzarote? Think again. After visiting Lanzarote seven times in the past four years, it’s safe to say that Ellie, our Customer Experience & Insights Apprentice, is somewhat of an expert on the island. Here, she gives us her insider knowledge on how to make the most of your holiday and tick off some amazing things to do in Lanzarote...

1. Where's the best place to see a sunset?

“For a unique experience to see a sunset, the El Diablo Restaurant is a must. Located on the top of an active volcano in Timanfaya National Park, the restaurant offers views of a fiery sunset. The food here is also great – they cook the food using the heat from the active volcano, it’s quite the sight!”

Question 2b

2. Where's the best place to enjoy a drink with a view?

“This one is more of a hidden gem that many tourists don’t know about. Catch the local bus to the capital city of Arrecife and walk about 20 minutes along the scenic promenade. At the end of this promenade, you’ll see the tallest building in Lanzarote, which is also a hotel. Head to the 17th floor to access the Blue 17 bar. This is the best place on the island for drinks with a view. On one side, you’ll see the beautiful ocean and on the other, the traditional city of Arrecife, it’s definitely worth a visit.”

Question 3b

3. Where's the best place to take a stroll?

“There are so many great places to take a stroll in Lanzarote, but my personal favourite is from Matagorda to Puerto del Carmen. This is the perfect walk as you’re always next to the beach, and it’s flat throughout. Start at the end of the airport runway in Matagorda and make your way through Los Jameos, Los Pocillos then onto Puerto del Carmen. It’s quite a long walk, but there are many places you can stop off at.”

Question 4

4. What's the most Instagrammable experience?

“There are so many places that are Instagram worthy, but the one that stands out to me is the submarine safari from Puerto Calero. The trip will take you 30m below the ocean for the chance to see the stunning sealife and shipwrecks. There are only 15 commercial submarines in the world, and Lanzarote is home to one of them! Out of all the Lanzarote attractions, this is one of the most unique.”

Question 5b

5. Where's the best place for cocktails?

“A cocktail is about experience as well as the taste, and no place knows this better than La Delicatezza Cocktail Bar in Puerto del Carmen. From a washing-up liquid cocktail to an ice cream cocktail, this bar has it all.”

Question 6

6. Where's the best place to go shopping?

“There are many great places to go shopping in Lanzarote, but the one that stands out most to me is Deiland Shopping Centre, located in Playa Honda. Deiland has all you could need and more. With its shopping mall featuring everything from shops and eateries to a bowling alley and cinema!”

Question 7

7. Where's the best place to dine in Lanzarote?

“There’s something for everyone when it comes to dining in Lanzarote. For me, my favorite place is My Kitchen by Julius located in the Old Town of Puerto del Carmen. It’s known for its high-quality meat cooked on a charcoal grill and the flavours are amazing. We once ordered a mixed grill for two people and three of us couldn’t even finish it!”

Question 8

8. Where can you find something quirky?

“Cueva de los Verdes, also known as the lava tunnels, is a must-do, unique attraction when visiting Lanzarote. Located in the north of the island, the lava tunnels were created around 3,000 years ago when the nearby volcano Monte Corona erupted. Want to see a concert? Yes, there is a concert hall built into the caves! The atmosphere of the cave creates a one-of-a-kind experience.”

9. Where's the best place to grab a souvenir?

“There are so many places to grab a souvenir, but if you want something unique, head to the Submarine Safari shop in Puerto Calero to grab a bottle of wine that has aged in the Atlantic Ocean for 4-6 months. People describe the taste as fruity, soft but ripe with a slightly acidic finish.”

10. Where's the best place for traditional Spanish food?

“There are so many great Spanish restaurants in Lanzarote, but my personal favorite is a tapas restaurant called La Carmencita del Puerto located in Matagorda. Everything about this restaurant is Spanish. From the food and wine to the incredibly friendly service, it’s definitely an authentic taste of Spain here.”

Question 11

11. Any cool photo spots?

“Timanfaya National Park is out of this world… quite literally. Many films have been filmed here due to its Mars-like planet likeness. To protect the landscape of the park, access is heavily restricted. The only way to enter the park is by an organised coach tour.”

Question 12

12. What are the best sights to tick off?

“Jameos Del Agua is such a breathtaking sight. Located in Punta Mujeres, it was created by César Manrique in 1966 to be the Centre of Art, Culture and Tourism and reflect on his creative work. It’s located inside a volcanic tunnel that was formed by the eruption of the La Corona volcano. This created one of the longest volcanic tunnels in the world, measuring 6km in length!”

13. What are the best sports and activities to try?

“Due to the natural conditions and landscape of Lanzarote, it’s a great place to visit if you’re interested in sports. Once a year, the world-famous IRONMAN event is held in Lanzarote. The race includes swimming, cycling and running with a total race distance of 226.2km! The next IRONMAN event will be held on the 17 May 2025.”

14. Where’s the best place to try local wine?

“Lanzarote is well-known for its local wine, with the volcanic taste in the background of every sip, and a visit to Bodega La Geria winery is worth a visit. Located in La Geria, Bodega La Geria is the oldest winery on the island. Here, you can take a guided tour, learn about the wine-making process, and of course, a taste test!”

Question 15b

15. Where's the best place for a day trip?

“If you’re not already staying there, Playa Blanca is a great place for a day trip. Catch the local bus from your resort, and you’ll be there in no time. There’s a great selection of activities and facilities here, from bars and restaurants to beaches and waterparks, there’s something for everyone.”
