Tucked away in the eastern Pyrenees, La Molina’s one of Spain’s standout ski spots. A three-hour drive from Barcelona will deliver you to 68km of slopes, climbing to nearly 2500m above sea level. With its laidback charm, reliable snow and stunning views stretching across Catalonia, there’s something for everyone around these parts. And that’s before we even mention the handy Jet2.com flights, 10kg hand luggage included and the option to add 22kg ski carriage and hold baggage*. We feel a ski trip coming on...
The resort
If you’re looking for a resort where you can escape the crowds, it’s time to call off the search. Once you arrive, you’ll notice how well-organised everything feels, from lift access to equipment rentals, making it an ideal destination for families, groups and solo travellers alike. Accommodation options range from cosy lodges to more contemporary hotels, many with easy access to the slopes. Non-skier? You’ll find plenty to get stuck into. Snowshoeing trails allow you to explore the quieter corners of the landscape, while sledging areas are fab for dialling up the adventure. And if simply taking in the views at a mountain café is what you’re after, then you’re in luck. There’s a spa and bowling alley too!
The slopes
La Molina’s terrain is thoughtfully designed to cater to a wide range of abilities. For beginners, the gentle nursery slopes and dedicated learning areas provide a safe environment for progression on the pistes. More of an intermediate? You’ll be in your element on the long, scenic pistes that wind through the mountains. Steeper runs and off-piste opportunities provide a chance to push yourself, especially after fresh snowfall. There’s also a snowpark for those looking to add a bit of freestyle flair to their day, with features suitable for varying levels of experience.
The après
After a day on the slopes, La Molina’s après scene offers a relaxed and welcoming way to unwind. For a hearty meal, El Bosc is a fave, known for its comforting mountain dishes and an inviting atmosphere. Another mainstay is La Ferme de Montagne, which combines rustic charm with a slightly more refined menu. Be sure to try slow-cooked stews like escudella and rustic plates of trinxat (potato, cabbage and pork). Although things lean towards the laidback here, you can still find a buzz if you know where to look. Snow Bar El Tirol, we’re looking at you.
