With slopes for every level and accommodation for all budgets, Kaprun’s an Austrian all-rounder when it comes to winter getaways. It’s a great choice for early or late-season trips, thanks to its high-altitude slopes on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. And with great-value Jet2 flights to nearby Salzburg, 10kg hand luggage included and the option to add up to 22kg ski carriage and baggage*, booking your next break is a snow-brainer!

The resort

The village itself is charming and compact, so it’s a doddle to hop between the pistes, restaurants and bars. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to accommodation too, with everything from self-catering pads to high-end hotels to pick from. Most places are within easy reach of ski buses, which are frequent and free with your ski pass. Kaprun forms part of the Zell am See-Kaprun region, giving you access to three distinct ski areas, the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe.

The slopes

The 138km Zell am See-Kaprun ski area has plenty to keep you busy for a week or more. And if you manage to conquer these mountains, you can make the most of the wider 270km Ski Circus ski area by hopping on the regular ski bus service. Kaprun’s a confidence-builder and Maiskogel is the standout learning area, with wide, blue runs and excellent ski schools. The slopes are uncrowded and well-groomed, perfect for mastering turns without pressure. Once you’ve got your ski legs, head up to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier to unlock a network of scenic reds. Piste pro? You’ll love the glacier’s steeper sections, freeride zones and natural terrain. Freestyle fans will also be in their element. The Easy Park, Central Park and South Central Park are packed with kickers, rails and boxes. Plus, there’s lots for non-skiers to get stuck into. For the best pics, put the Top of Salzburg viewing platform to the top of your must-do list. Winter hiking trails, toboggan runs and spa days are all on the cards too. The Tauern Spa is particularly popular, with its outdoor thermal pools and long list of treatments.

The après

Kaprun’s après-ski scene is relaxed, with a winning mix of lively bars and cosy alpine restaurants. For classic après vibes, Baumbar’s the headline act, kicking off mid-afternoon with DJs, drinks and dancing, while Pavillon Après-Ski Bar and Kitsch & Bitter offer a more laidback start with good music and cocktails. On the mountain, Eisbär-Bar at Maiskogel is fab for a final drink before descending. Looking for somewhere to go when hunger hits? The locals rave about Hilberger’s Beisl’s traditional Austrian dishes and Paletti Pizza Bar for casual dinners.
