The resort

Sitting at 1377m with lifts soaring to nearly 3000m, Ischgl is one of Austria’s top ski destinations. The town itself oozes Alpine charm but with a modern twist. Expect a mix of traditional wooden chalets alongside sleek hotels, stylish bars and high-end boutiques. When it comes to snoozing spots, the accommodation options span from five-star spa hotels to self-catering apartments. Getting around is a doddle too, thanks to the efficient lift system. The modern cable cars whisk you from the centre, straight onto the slopes, often in under ten minutes. And as Innsbruck Airport’s less than two hours away, you can really maximise your time on the mountain.

The slopes

Ischgl’s part of the Silvretta Arena, a ski area that links with Samnaun in Switzerland, offering over 230km of connected pistes. The extensive network of runs covers everything from wide, forgiving blues to steep blacks that’ll test even the most confident. First-timers are well looked after, with excellent ski schools and gentle slopes near Idalp — the main mountain hub. Here, you’ll find friendly instructors, plenty of space to practise your turns and mountain restaurants that are perfect for a well-earned hot chocolate. Intermediates will be in their element cruising down the long red runs, like the 11km descent from the Greitspitze into Samnaun. For the pros, the Duty-Free Run, a black from the top of the double-decker cable to Samnaun, is a must-do.

Snowboarders and freestyle fans will feel right at home in the Ischgl Snowpark. It’s one of the best in Europe, packed with jumps, rails and features for every skill level. And thanks to Ischgl’s high altitude and excellent snowmaking facilities, you can expect reliable conditions from late November right through to early May.

The après

This is a resort where the party starts long before the lifts stop spinning. From sun-soaked terrace bars to late-night clubs, there’s something for every mood. Start your afternoon at Trofana Alm or Kuhstall, two of the most iconic après spots in town. Dance until the early hours at Pacha Ischgl or enjoy live music and local schnapps at one of the many pubs. When you’re ready for dinner, take your pick of the cosy mountain huts serving hearty Austrian fare, alongside gourmet restaurants with fine wines and Michelin-starred flair.
