How to pack your bike

Seasoned cyclist? Pedalling pro? Two-wheeled enthusiast? However you’d describe yourself, if you can’t beat a break away on a bike, then you’ve come to the right place. What you’ll need:

• Bubble wrap

• Allen key

• Zip-ties

• Firm cardboard

• Duct tape

Pedals, seat post and saddle

• Take off the pedals and tape them together.

• Remove the saddle and seatpost from the frame or lower them to their minimum height.

• Tighten the clamp lightly or remove it completely.

Gears

• Put the bike onto the biggest rings front and back.

• Leave the bike with the left crank pointing straight forward.

• Tie the right crank to the chainstay, making sure it won’t turn.

Rear derailleur

• Remove the rear derailleur.

• Tighten the hanger bolt.

Wheels

• Take the front wheel off and remove the quick-release skewers.

• Keep the quick-release skewers in your hand luggage, because you don’t want to forget them!

• Deflate both tyres about halfway, leaving some pressure in to protect the rims.

• Leave the rear wheel on your bike if you’re using a box.

Handlebars

• Turn your bars downwards so they will fit into the box.

• Won’t fit? Remove your handlebars from the stem.

Bike protection

• Make sure that you have no rubbing points between your frame and components.

• Wrap all parts in bubble wrap.

• Tape down any moveable parts.

• Wrap your bike in a stiff cardboard box and seal with duct tape.

• Make sure your bike weighs no more than 32kg.

• Make sure your bike is not bigger than 182cm x 91cm (6ft x 3ft).

• Pre-book your bike carriage with us before you fly!

• Head to the Jet2.com baggage check-in area when you arrive at the airport.

• Go to the airport in plenty of time before your departure, as it may take a little longer than usual to check your bike in.
