Thermal baths are the hot thing on the holiday agenda right now. And because we know how important wellness breaks can be, we’re shining the spotlight on some of Europe’s top thermal spas. It’s time to sit back and relax...

We’re going to start with one of Europe’s largest (and often dubbed best) thermal spa, the Széchenyi Baths. Located in Hungary’s baroque capital, Budapest, the unique pastel yellow structure dates back to 1913 and has been attracting tourists ever since. While the pools are a sight to behold themselves, they also happen to be set within the captivating grounds of City Park. Some of nature’s greatest work is on show here, so prepare to be surrounded by beauty from sites like Vajdahunyad Castle and the Gatehouse Tower. You’ll have 15 indoor and three outdoor baths to choose from here, all varying in temperature. Choose between an icy dip or a warming plunge for some well-deserved R&R.

When you clasp your eyes on the majestic waters of Pamukkale, spilling from the glistening white calcium pools over 200 metres high, it’s easy to see why this landmark is credited with a UNESCO World Heritage stamp. Located in western Turkey, near the town of Denizli, Pamukkale is accessible from all the major resorts! Explore the turquoise terraces to your heart’s content, dipping in and out of the healing waters which at first glance, don’t quite look real. As well as the flowing thermal springs, you’ll also find the ancient Roman spa city, Hierapolis, which is well worth a visit while you’re in the area.

Step into Iceland’s very own dreamland with a visit to the Blue Lagoon. Located on the western side of the country, surrounded by vast Nordic nature, you’re in for a dose of undisturbed peace at this stunning geothermal spa. Immerse yourself in all the spectacular elements, relax in the mineral-rich, heated waters and watch the steam swirling around the volcanic rocks that surround the lagoon. With skin-soothing water and otherworldly landscapes, it’s easy to see why the Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most famous and popular attractions.
Terme di Saturnia
With four outdoor pools, multiple saunas and relaxing whirlpools, the Terme di Saturnia thermals baths should be at the top of your itinerary when you visit the Italian countryside. Tuscany’s majestic views and rolling hills may feel like a wellness hit just in themselves, but when you melt into these age-old thermal waters, you’ll understand why they’re renowned for their healing powers. To make visiting these baths even more appealing, the teal pools are surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, so your mind is bound to feel as relaxed as your body. Top tip: visit at sunset to watch the sky fade behind the Tuscan hills.
