The Canary Islands with Jane McDonald is a brand-new series uncovering the joys of the sun-kissed Canaries with  Jet2holidays. In the final episode, she heads to Lanzarote to uncover its hidden treasures. As one of the most popular resorts on the island, it’s no surprise that the TV star chooses Costa Teguise as her base. One of the first stop-offs featured is Jameos del Agua, a network of underground caves and tunnels, which lead to a restaurant and lake. And did you know that they were masterfully created by Canarian sculptor, César Manrique? Don’t forget to keep an eye out for albino crabs, as this is the only place in the world where you can spot them.

Get creative at a workshop

Next up on the show, it’s on to Casa Museo del Campesino. This museum shines a spotlight on the island’s rich culture and history, so it’s the perfect place for a spot of pottery. Local artisans still use thousand-year-old techniques to mould the volcanic clay into marvellous shapes. Why not book onto a class and see what you can create? There’s nothing better than a handmade souvenir!

Tick off Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya National Park should be top of any itinerary, dappled with lava cones that showcase the island’s volcanic beginnings. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, there’s a local restaurant you should head to, where you can sample food cooked by geothermal heat at 400°.

Try volcanic vino

Lanzarote’s vineyards are unlike anywhere else, and that’s down to the scorched, volcanic land that the grapes grow on. This tasty tipple has been produced here since the 15th century, and the island is now recognised as one of Spain’s official wine regions. While there are plenty of brimming bodegas eager to pour you their fine wines, La Geria’s come top of the drops.  

Visit the oldest town in Lanzarote

Teguise was once Lanzarote’s capital, nowadays, its cobbled streets, colonial architecture and whitewashed houses offer a slice of Canarian charm. You’ll often hear musicians playing the timple, similar to a ukelele, in the church square. And every Sunday, it plays host to one of the island’s biggest and best markets.

Take in the views at Mirador del Rio

The TV icon’s adventure concludes at the Mirador del Rio. This viewpoint, designed by César Manrique, clinches the crown for best panoramas, sitting at nearly 500 metres above sea level. On a clear day, you can even see across to the neighbouring island of La Graciosa.
