Guide to the Venetian Riviera

Where stripy parasols meet all-thrills theme parks, you’ll find the Venetian Riviera. It’s so much more than Venice’s sibling, though you’d better put a gondola ride there on your agenda too…

Let us set the scene: the sand between your toes is warm, there are plenty of parasols lining the sun-soaked beach and the water ahead is glittering and inviting. Welcome to the Venetian Riviera – Lido di Jesolo, to be exact. It’s the seaside resort that neighbours swanky Venice, ready to ply you with good times galore.

Not sure where to start first or even to stay? Sit back and get comfy as we take you on a tour with our guide to the Venetian Riviera…

Set your sights on the sand

More than 15km of Blue Flag-rated coastline means the area is in pole position for beaches. The turquoise hues of the Adriatic Sea help to give the plot of champagne sand its postcard appeal, and there are plenty of spots for you to sprawl out on in the rays. No wonder it’s such a hit for a bucket-and-spade holiday in Italy!

Along with stacks of sunbeds, there are oodles of eateries dotted around for your convenience too. If you’ve got a sweet tooth (you and us both), gelato goes hand in hand with getaways here. So go and pick your favourite flavour and enjoy a fruity scoop or two from a vendor.

Get active

Eager to cover a lot of ground? We can’t recommend cycling enough. Heading out on two wheels means you can get from A to B with great ease, and Lido di Jesolo is paved with more than 100 miles’ worth of cycling routes. So, why not hire some wheels and take to the open road in a sustainable fashion? The marina and lighthouse at Porto Turistico are super sights to set out in search of too.

There are a number of courses in the region, but Golf Club Jesolo is an 18-hole haven for semi-pros. There’s a driving range and practice area too, and you can largely enjoy a flat terrain with some trickier water hazards thrown in for good measure.

Everything and more

Sure, you can shop in mega-malls and outlet centres, but does it get any better than the local markets? We don’t reckon so. Lido Market showcases all sorts of wares, with lace and glassware from neighbouring Venice being among the most sought-after items to snag. And when you want to admire the views, that’s where The Wheel of Venice comes in.

Whether you’re with the kids or you’re just a big kid yourself, you can let loose at Jesolandia and relish a thrilling day out. From bumper cards to revolving rides, you can get your theme park fix within seconds of entering this colour-clad fantasy realm. Try your hand at winning prizes at the games stalls too.

From pizza to pasta

Into your wood-fired wonders? Or maybe even your bowlfuls of sauce-slathered ribbons? Either way, you’ll be well catered for in the Venetian Riviera. It’s the local custom to serve mozzarella-heavy pizzas that’ll leave no tums rumbling, but you can choose from classic spaghetti or linguine here too. Ooh, and don’t even get us started on the shellfish – the seafood is just divine.

Going away with fussy eaters? Or just know what you like and nothing else will do? You’ll have international choices too. Equally, if the finer things are your favourites, more upmarket dining is also on the table.

Follow the neon lights

Chilled vibes and party atmospheres can both be had here in Lido di Jesolo. The Venetian Riviera nails both the quieter evening settings and the bass-pumping, all-nighter scenes. Il Muretto is a famous haunt among ravers, and it’s welcomed the likes of Moby and The Chemical Brothers to the decks over the years. It’s all go-big-or-go-home beats here.

You’ll find more than your fair share of thumping clubs too, plus Capannina Beach dials up the DJs when the lights go low. This slice of sand goes from must-laze-on patch during the day to a be-seen-here spot where the drinks flow and the music hums, loudly.

Veering towards Venice?

Cities don’t get much chicer than Venice. The so-called Floating City isn’t just about gondola rides down its remarkable canals. Of course, they’re a must, but Murano and Burano are kaleidoscopic parts too. Shop for Venetian masks, glassware and trinkets. You also won’t want to miss St. Mark’s Square, the imposing basilica within it and the Doge’s Palace. They’re just a trio of the most jaw-dropping landmarks you’ll spy while sightseeing.

When all’s said and done, have a glam evening out. Bellinis and oysters, anyone? Mingle with the well-heeled as you wine and dine at sunset, soaking up both the great views and the ambience. After all, who said you couldn’t enjoy the best of both worlds?

Budget brilliance or five-star finery?

The great thing about the Venetian Riviera – beyond the sand-dusted obvious – is its range of hotels. You can settle into more basic, what-you-see-is-what-you-get digs, which are often super-friendly and family-run. So that means warm welcomes come as standard. What’s not to like? But you can also opt for middle-ground hotels that aren’t lavish but have all the features and facilities you could wish for – plus inviting pools.

Oh, you are looking for lavish? Well, that’s no problem either. You can get a taste of the luxe life in our four-star-plus and five-star retreats too. Think pamper afternoons, leisurely meals in trendy à la carte restaurants, spacious and contemporary rooms… the list goes on.

So, when you’re ready to book your trip to the Venetian Riviera, we can’t wait to welcome you to this happy holiday honeypot!
