Thinking of whisking the family away to a winter wonderland for some exhilarating adventures? A ski or snowboarding holiday promises a great change to a beach break and it’s a fab way to make unforgettable memories. Let’s take a look at some of the best resorts near Barcelona...
There are a multitude of options for introducing children to skiing in resorts like Pas de la Casa, Soldeu and El Tarter, from nurseries with fun snow games and indoor play areas to ski schools with experienced instructors.
Top tip: When booking your lift passes, children under five years old are often entitled to a free one in many of these resorts!
La Molina, Spain
This gem, nestled in the heart of the Spanish Pyrenees, is conveniently located around 150km from Barcelona. It offers family-friendly vibes, a range of slopes for all skill levels and dedicated ski schools. Don’t worry, experienced skiers can also take on challenging pistes! There are plenty of après-ski activities, including bowling, tubing, and snowmobiling. You’ll find a few quiet spots for a drink, some scrumptious eateries and an exciting arcade, too.
Port del Comte, Spain
For well-maintained slopes, runs with beautiful pine-forest views and fantastic instructors, Port del Comte is a winner. It’s not too far from the city and has an Adventure Park with various activities available to keep the younger ones busy. Zip lines? Snowshoeing? A snow garden for the little ones? Tick, tick and tick.
Pas de la Casa, Andorra
Pas de la Casa’s vibrant après scene attracts a lively crowd but it’s also the country’s highest resort which means the chance of snow is high! Plus, it’s the only resort in the area with direct access to the slopes, so you can ski right back to town. Pas de la Casa Sports Centre is great for recharging off the slopes, with the likes of soft play, a swimming pool and even a climbing wall. As for food, there are famous fast-food eats as well as local legends.
Soldeu, Andorra
Soldeu is home to lots of high-end hotels offering fab amenities. With spas, kids’ clubs and soft play areas, the whole family can remain holiday happy. Why not hop on the TC8 Soldeu gondola, then see where the day takes you? You may end up in a cosy eatery filling up on delicious local food. You can also easily reach El Tarter by bus for a change of scenery.
El Tarter, Andorra
El Tarter’s beginner’s area and gentle blue slopes are great for those starting out but there are also some red slopes for when the daring ones in the family have unlocked their confidence. At the top of the TC10 El Tarter gondola is the Baba Boom Circus Route. This interactive ski area is designed with kids in mind, with gentle slopes and plenty of colourful signs. Then, they can move on to the Mont Magic trail in Canillo.
You’re well situated here, with the village of Canillo and Andorra la Vella only a short bus ride away. If you prefer to stay in resort, l’Abarset is a fab spot for breakfast!
