How to get there

Head out on a gulet boat cruise

It wouldn’t be a trip to Turkey (Türkiye) without embarking on a traditional gulet boat cruise! These wooden vessels are traditionally designed, with either two or three sails and plenty of space to sit back and relax. You can set sail from Fethiye town’s natural harbour and explore the surrounding coastline – it's a great way to see more of the area’s beautiful bays and beaches. Plus, you might have time for some snorkelling and sunbathing too!

The history

Scattered among the beautiful beaches and brilliant hotels are the remains of Fethiye’s rich and awe-inspiring history. Its staggering selection of history-soaked sights is just one reason why Fethiye is a holiday favourite.

Amyntas Rock Tombs

Carved into a sheer rock face and dating all the way back to around 350 BC, these towering tombs are a sight to behold, boasting intricate facades and interesting architectural designs. It’s just a short uphill climb to see them, where you’ll also be rewarded with sweeping views over Fethiye. If you don’t fancy exploring on foot, you can hop on a boat trip and cruise past the mythical Lycian Tombs instead – they’re best seen from the water. It’s a must-do for any history buff!

Stroll around Paspatur

Fethiye’s old town, Paspatur, is ideal if you’re looking for something a little more laidback. You’ll find flavours of local life at every turn, from the fish market to the restaurants, this wonderful old town has so much to offer. It’s a superb shopping spot too, with stalls selling all kinds of goodies like traditional Turkish carpets and herbs and spices. Plus, you can pick up a few souvenirs here too.

Go for a traditional hammam
