With ever-growing communities, fabulous nightlife and exciting Pride events, we have so many locations that are a match for LGBTQIA+ holidays. Think illustrious Lesvos, sequin-splashed Gran Canaria and Sitges and the bright lights Malta and Ibiza.
Gran Canaria
This Canarian isle has been a hub for queer culture since the 1960s. Come for the year-round rays and sparkling coastline, then stay for the lively atmosphere in Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas. The multi-storey Yumbo Centre is a highlight, filled with shops, bars, clubs and cafés. Some of the UK’s top drag artists have performed here, so be sure to catch a show while you’re visiting. Every year in May, Pride celebrations take over the island. The main event is the parade, but there are pool parties, fashion shows and performances from international artists to enjoy too.
Sitges, Spain
You don’t have to venture far for fun in Sitges. Located just along the coast from Buzzy Barcelona, this hotspot beckons with its bars and nightclubs. Days here are spent hopping between the beaches or soaking up the Spanish culture. Plan your visit to align with one of the town’s events, like Sitges Pride (June) and Festa Major (August).
Malta
What this tiny island lacks in size, it more than makes up for with its long list of things to see and do. It’s a cultural honeypot, foodie haven and nightlife hotspot, all rolled into one. There are LGBTQIA+ venues scattered across the island, but most are found in St Julians and Valletta. If you’re here in September, don’t miss the capital’s Pride celebrations. Street parties and live music are just the start of the festivities.
Ibiza
If partying is high on your holiday agenda, then you’ve landed in the right place. This bohemian isle knows how to have a good time and it’s teeming with gay bars and clubs. Don’t make the mistake of badging it as just a clubbing destination though, scratch beneath the sparkly surface and you’ll discover blissful beaches, tucked-away markets and a bounty of quirky cafés.
Lesvos
Lesvos has made its mark on the LGBTQIA+ community with its inclusive vibe and popular events like the International Eressos Women’s Festival, held in September. Looking for nightlife? Adventure? Nothing but beaches? All of the above is covered. And don’t get us started on the food. Feast on net-fresh seafood and then wash it down with some of Greece’s finest ouzo. Yamas!
Barcelona, Spain
Everyone can expect a warm welcome in Barcelona, especially in the L’Eixample neighbourhood, around Plaça de Catalunya. Here, you’ll stumble across LGBTQIA+ owned bookshops, cafés, bars, restaurants and so much more. Every year, thousands of people take to the streets for all things Pride. Live music? Workshops? Parades? It’s all here.
