‘Tis the season for a holiday! And if you want to make this winter count and book that getaway you’ve been dreaming of, we’re here to help you choose just the place to go if you’re after somewhere warm. There are plenty of places in Europe that boast year-round sun if you know where to look…
Lanzarote
Sweeping sandy shores and warm sunshine paint the ultimate picture of a relaxing Christmas on the beach in Lanzarote. But beyond the R&R, there’s plenty to get you in the festive spirit. Watch the Santa Parade in Puerto del Carmen, amble around the Christmas markets in Playa Blanca or experience a festive concert inside Jameos del Agua, a volcanic cave.
Tenerife
Feliz Navidad from Tenerife! It’s easy to get into the spirit of Christmas on this eternally fun-filled island. While you can lounge by the pool or take gentle strolls on the beach, you can also expect mulled wine in buzzy Irish pubs, festive singalongs in karaoke bars and traditional dinners with all the trimmings in hotel restaurants.
Madeira
They don’t do Christmas by halves in Madeira. On this lush island, dazzling light displays take over – they’ve even won a Guinness World Record for their extravagance. In between experiencing Madeira’s lush mountains and volcanic beaches, you can swing by parades, attend carol concerts and pick up pressies from Funchal’s markets. The pinnacle? The New Year’s Eve flamboyant firework display. Just… wow.
Gran Canaria
Swap snow for sun this Christmas with a trip to Gran Canaria. Fairy-lit palm trees set the scene for a sunny festive season by the sea. After a day at the beach, hit the capital Las Palmas, which dazzles with its twinkly lights and epic shopping in Triana. You can also see giant seasonal sand sculptures at Las Canteras Beach and watch a singing Santa at Amadores Beach.
Fuerteventura
If all you want to do is fly and flop this festive season, Fuerteventura’s for you. Flit between the pool and beach, with temps averaging the early twenties during the day. For a little seasonal spirit, have a wander around Corralejo’s annual market. Fancy Christmas dinner local style? Expect a feast of seafood and fish. But if you can’t miss your usual turkey, lots of hotels and British pubs offer a classic menu.
Antalya Area
Try Turkey this Christmas – and we don’t mean the bird! The country’s Mediterranean coast still basks in the sun during December and with epic all-inclusive hotels lining the shore, it’ll be a Christmas to remember. Excellent service and food and drink on tap mean you won’t have to lift a finger. Out in resort, you can expect fab sales in the shopping malls and big New Year’s Eve celebrations.
