1. Old Town Nessebar

Nessebar’s Old Town is a UNESCO-listed wonder with a warren of winding cobblestone streets. It’s located on a peninsula that’s linked to the mainland by a small road bridge – this separates the Old Town from the new.

Wander the labyrinth-like alleyways in the direction of the Byzantine church of Christ Pantocrator, one of the most recognisable sites in Nessebar. Its lavish façade is covered in brightly-coloured ceramics, while the intricate paintings adorning the walls inside are just as intriguing.

2. Winery Messembria

Wine fan? Seek out Winery Messembria hidden away in the Old Town. It’s got an authentic feel to the cosy bar and if you’re interested in the country’s wine history, the knowledgeable staff are on hand to help. Sample some of Bulgaria’s best white and red wines, bottles of which make great souvenirs – save room in your suitcase!

3. Church of St. Stephen

At the heart of the Old Town stands this 11th-century church, one of the top things to do in Nessebar. From the outside, it’s similar in looks to the Christ Pantocrator Church, but venture across the paved courtyard and indoors where it reveals its true magic. You’ll be met by a dazzling array of gleaming goldwork and intricate fresco paintings. Everywhere you cast your gaze you’ll see colourful religious murals dating back centuries.

Entry ticket prices can be combined with other museums and historic sites, so you’ll get to see much more for your money.

4. South Beach

Ready to plonk down in the sunshine after a morning sightseeing? Nessebar’s most popular beach stretches for 1.5km, with ample room for all. This Blue Flag beauty is a real crowd pleaser thanks to its soft golden sands and calm waters. You can hire a lounger for the day or lay your towel down and feel the sand between your toes.

There’s a huge selection of water sports to choose from too, so if lazing on a lounger’s not really for you, there are plenty of other options to keep you entertained.

5. Aqua Paradise

Who doesn’t like a day at the waterpark? Aqua Paradise is the biggest waterpark in the country and promises thrills and spill for all the family. With 25 water slides, five swimming pools and two lazy rivers, it’s a guaranteed full day of fun.

There’s Kamikaze and Space Jam for the thrill-seekers and Surf Pool, the park’s newest attraction, where you can practise your surf skills and see how long you can stay on the board! To make things even easier for you, there’s also a free shuttle bus service available from nearby resorts.

6. Camel Park

This family-run park is home to a friendly herd of camels! Just a short drive from both Nessebar and Sunny Beach, it’s certainly worth the trip to spend a day with these welcoming animals.

Enjoy a camel ride, have a go at feeding them and get a unique souvenir photo taken. Mike the camel is known for showing off his skills and tricks, so make sure you’ve got your camera ready! It’s not just camels here though, you can also see chickens, donkeys, rabbits, ponies and peacocks.

7. Church of Saint Sophia

Through the charming cobbled streets of the Old Town, you’ll find the well-preserved ruins of the Church of Saint Sophia. Its towering archways and crumbling columns stand tall among pretty cafés and souvenir shops. The 5th-century church is a great place to snap some unique holiday photos and if you stay for the sunset, you’ll see it in a whole new light!
