Madonna di Campiglio

Distance from Verona Airport: 164km

150km of pristine pistes are yours to explore in Madonna di Campiglio. You can look forward to long, scenic runs – perfect for practising your technique! It’s ideal for beginners, thanks to the sprawling nursery area on the outskirts of the village. More of a seasoned pro? Check out the 3 Tre World Cup Slalom run. The main street is lined with designer shops and chic bars, so there’s plenty to keep you occupied on and off the mountain. And although the après may be on the quieter side, you can still find a great atmosphere if you know where to look. We’re talking a weekly ’70s and ’80s night at Piano 54 and live music at Pub Dolomiti.

Passo Tonale

Distance from Verona Airport: 178km

Travelling with tots? You’ve just struck gold. Straddling the regions of Trentino and Lombardy, Passo Tonale’s 100km ski area’s got something for everyone. Fast lifts and quiet slopes are just the start of its draws, and with most of it sitting above 1,800m, you can expect snow-sure slopes all season long. There’s a kids’ area located next to the Scoiattolo piste, with a mini magic carpet, inflatable slide and so much more. Or who’s up for high-altitude skiing and boarding on the Presena glacier? There’s even a cruisy blue run up here, so everyone can join in on the adventure.

That’s another tick in Ortisei’s box. If you’re looking for a challenge, head for the 3km-long Saslong route or the Men’s World Cup run from the top of the Ciampinoi gondola. When you’re done clocking up the kilometres, take your pick of more than 40 restaurants. Whether you’re in the mood for fine dining or traditional fare, there’s a place for every palate.

Selva Gardena

Distance from Verona Airport: 192km

Selva feels more Austrian than Italian, from the food to the family-run hotels. It’s one of the better resorts if you have a few trips under your belt, with lots of long reds to whizz down in the 175km Val Gardena ski area. The après scene is fab too! Luis Keller is a popular spot, known for the traditionally dressed staff selling boots of beer. Non-skiers can soak up the scenery on a winter walking trail, enjoy some healthy competition at the bowling alley or cheer on the local ice hockey team at the ice rink.
