But where exactly should you head for the all-important mealtimes? We’ve lined up some standouts for the freshest doughs, the most divine pastas and all the in-betweens you could wish for.

L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele

L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele is one of the oldest and most popular pizzerias in Naples. Founded in 1870, it’s become a real landmark of Naples gastronomy. It’s become such a popular destination for diners, that Da Michele issues numbered tickets to guests, which isn’t a surprise considering people queue down the street for a taste of these delightful doughs!

Once you’re in the restaurant, it’s never too crowded, and you can sit down for a truly enjoyable dining experience. They keep things simple and traditional here, with only two pizzas available, the marina pizza (seafood) and the classic margherita, both as delectable as each other.

Di Martino Sea Front Pasta Bar

Di Martino Sea Front Pasta Bar has been recommended by the Michelin guide for its excellent quality of food, so putting this pasta spot on your list is a must! Located opposite the Castel Nuovo, and on the seafront near Port Naples, it may be one of the most beautiful settings to dine at in the city. Inside, the restaurant is wonderfully light with floor-to-ceiling windows and has bar-style seating around the whole restaurant.

The chefs work from hot plates on the other side of where you dine, serving up mainly pasta dishes and homemade desserts. The ‘from the sea’ section of the menu boasts some of the freshest seafood you’ll find in Naples thanks to their seafront location. Try the linguine with clams or lobster and garlic for a true taste explosion.

George Restaurant

Naples is home to an abundance of top-class restaurants, perfect for sampling some of the finest Italian cuisine. But if you’re after a dining experience to remember, head to the highly accoladed George Restaurant. Found in the Grand Hotel Parker’s, the setting of this restaurant is exquisite. When sat on the terrace, you have unrivalled views of the Gulf of Naples, with expansive views across Vesuvius and the Sorrentine peninsula.

The born and bred Napoletano, Domenico Candela, leads the kitchen and creates divine flavours for your palate to savour. When you sample the flavour combinations such as lamb with fermented jalapeno, gnocchi filled with Monegasque provolone, cream and sage extract or steamed sea bass with leek and a potato mousse, it’s easy to understand why the chef has been awarded two Michelin stars.

Hachi Ristorante Giapponese

For a taste of something different on your getaway to Naples, try Tripadvisor’s most highly rated restaurant in the city, Hachi Ristorante Giapponese. Found on the bustling central street of Via Luca Giordano, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Japan once you’ve stepped inside. The salmon tartare and the sake sashimi are the chef’s recommendations, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu here.

For a real treat, try the 15-piece Hachi experience to sample an array of the best the menu has to offer. It’s no wonder this restaurant has been named Tripadvisor’s Travellers' Choice for best of the best restaurants and rated the best place to dine in all of Naples.

La Locanda Gesù Vecchio

La Locanda Gesù Vecchio is a Michelin guide and Tripadvisor favourite for great food and great value! This dreamy restaurant is located in the picturesque alleyways of Spaccanapoli, near the lovely gardens of San Marcellino. You’ll find a second location, restaurant Locanda Gesù Vecchio Civico 4 just up the street, so if one is full, you can always try the other!

The value of the food here is exceptional considering the quality. Try the bruschetta or arancini to start and the ragu or the salted cod with chilli pepper for mains for a tantalising experience for the taste buds.

Owap Pizzeria Foria

You can expect magnificent pizzerias across all of Naples, but one which receives an honourable mention from us is Owap Pizzeria Foria. It’s a recent winner of Tripadvisor’s Travellers' Choice award and is reviewed as one of the best pizzerias in the city! Another reason to visit? This place is uber affordable, and a classic base pizza will only set you back around €10!

The menu is spectacular, with lovely nibbles like salami croquettes and classic frittatina’s to three separate pizza menus! Choose from the evergreen pizza menu, for timeless classics like margherita or diavola, or delve into the chef's special creations on the alternative pizza menu for a taste of something different!

Januarius

To finish our best recommendations, we have the stellar pizzeria and seafood restaurant Janarius. This unique restaurant has its own boutique at the entrance selling charcuterie and cheeses so you can browse the local produce before heading to one of the two beautiful dining rooms. Directly across from the Duomo, the restaurant couldn’t be in a better location and provides a beautiful setting for your dining experience.

The dishes are decorated with an elegant flair and explode with flavour, so it’s no wonder Januarius is high up on the Michelin guide’s watch list! Try the artisan spaghetti with a broccoli cream and Monegasque provolone or cabbage rolls stuffed with risotto, mayonnaise and black truffle to sample the chef’s exciting creations. People rave about the octopus and salted cod too, so keep your eye out for them on the menu!
