So you’ve locked in ready for your holiday but still fancy keeping up your step count while you’re away? Say no more. Whether you’re getting your steps in between topping up the tan, stomping around a sight-stuffed city or racking them up with a pastry in hand and no real plan, these European hotspots make clocking 10,000 steps feel easy.
Budapest
Between Buda and Pest, the two sides of Budapest, you’ll wander over bridges, along the Danube and through buzzy neighbourhoods where you can make a pit stop for a frothy coffee or a bite to eat. As night falls, hit the ruin bars as you two-step your way around the dance floor. You’ll hit 10,000 steps before you can say ‘last orders’.
Madeira
With Madeira’s maze of levadas criss-crossing the island, getting your steps in is a total doddle. Think dramatic waterfalls, green hills and walking routes so good you’ll forget you’re technically exercising. Heading to the colourful capital of Funchal? By the time you’ve strolled around its gorgeous gardens and hopped between the rooftop cocktail bars, you’ll have smashed 10k in no time.
Rome
Zig-zag between ancient ruins and buzzing piazzas as you clock up your steps in the Eternal City. From the Colosseum to the Trevi Fountain, Rome is made for wandering, with something iconic around every corner. Take the long way through Trastevere, stop for gelato (obviously) and before you know it, you’ll have smashed 10,000 steps.
Majorca
With its rugged mountain peaks and coastal trails, Majorca’s a winner for getting your steps in while you’re away. Think days spent hiking in the Tramuntana mountains, seaside strolls along Palma’s promenade and golden-hour walks to hidden coves. It’s the kind of place where your step count quietly climbs while you’re too busy soaking up the views.
Tenerife
When you’re not hitting the shops on the Golden Mile, why not clock up some steps in Teide National Park? Oodles of trails means picture-perfect panoramas in spades. If you prefer something a little less hilly, the island boasts plenty of coastal promenades where you can stroll rather than stomp. End the day with sunset walk along the beach and boom – 10,000 steps, plus some serious sightseeing ticked off.
