Picture books

Of all the best kids’ books for the tots, Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are is a top-drawer choice. It’s been so popular for generations that Spike Jonze adapted it into a full feature film back in 2009! The colourful images and rhythm of the book make it a real page-turner as well. It’s just 338 words in total, so it isn’t too time-consuming for younger eyes. The story follows the adventures of a young boy called Max, when his bedroom transforms into a mysterious jungle environment. How’s that for a bedtime reading session?

Short reads

Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White has been around for donkey’s years. It’s got some likeable characters – notably Wilbur the pig and Charlotte, the spider he finds in the barn – so your little ones will be hooked on this shorter read in no time. It’s a standalone novel, which means you might get through a good few chapters while you’re on your jollies. If your youngsters are old enough to read, you can simply put your feet up.

Ah, the BFG. He’s big, friendly AND giant, so that’s why he’s up there as one of the best children’s books. Roald Dahl was an author known for his imaginative and creative works that would inspire his younger readers no end. If you’re on the hunt for your next fun family novel, get this on your list pronto!

Long reads

Harry Potter is something of a legend now. The seven-book series has snowballed from its own magical world into the realms of the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs, too. If you and the gang have never flicked a page of one of J. K. Rowling’s fantasy novels, you’re in for a treat! You’ll be gripped in no time too, exploring the lives of wizards, muggles and all things in between. You’ll also get to know Harry, Ron and Hermione pretty quickly, though each one of the books is quite meaty, so be prepared to sink quite a bit of time into reading them.

You can’t beat a holiday read! Like the sound of these? Get yourself a copy and pop it into your suitcase when you’re packing for your next family trip with Jet2holidays.
