Most of the city will understand what you mean by gluten-free, but it’s never a bad idea to learn some handy phrases before you go. In Italian, the translation for gluten-free is ‘senza glutine’, so you’ll be able to say this in any eatery to check what’s safe for you to eat.
Barcelona, Spain

Rest assured, you’ll be spoilt for choice in the Catalonian capital for mouth-watering gluten-free cuisine. Budapest, Hungary
One of the newest cities to make its name as a gluten-free hotspot is the Hungarian capital, Budapest. It flies rather under the radar on the food scene, with people being attracted to its gothic architecture and unique culture, rather than its gastronomy. But we’re here to change that, because Budapest is a hub for all foodies! With endless gluten-free bakeries, restaurants with exclusively gluten-free menus and lots of traditional, gluten-free dishes to try, you’ll have a tasty time here!
This is the land of homemade chimney cakes, kifli, lángos, fried breads and all the delicious delicacies you could think of, and thankfully, there are loads of 100% gluten-free bakeries to visit, so you can sample all the treats you could wish for! Head to Tibidabo for an array of gluten-free paninis, sandwiches and pastries, or visit Kata Restaurant and sample their traditional gluten-free dishes!
‘Gluténmentes’ is the Hungarian translation for gluten-free, so if you’re wanting to ask someone for food advice, try this local phrase!
Paris, France
If you think you have to miss out on the beautifully vibrant city of Paris because they don’t cater for gluten-free travellers, think again! You’ll find plenty of cafés, patisseries and restaurants that serve delightful gluten-free dishes to enjoy throughout your getaway! And even though you won’t find as many exclusively gluten-free restaurants here as you would in other European places, many of them have gluten-free dishes scattered throughout their menus. When you’re wandering around the city and you get a craving for something sweet, head to one of the fully gluten-free bakeries, like Copains or Maison Plume and try the baked goods!
If you’re wanting to triple check that a menu has something for you, use the French phrase ‘sans gluten’.
Tuscany, Italy
We know, we’ve already given Italy a shoutout on this list. But the capital isn’t the only place you can dine on delicious gluten-free dishes. If you’ve got sightseeing in Siena or countryside exploring in San Gimignano on your bucket list, but are worried about the Tuscan gluten-free food scene, don’t be. This cypress-covered region is oozing with delightful, coeliac-friendly restaurants to delve into. Whether you’re visiting Florence, Lucca, Viareggio or any of the more built-up Tuscan areas, you’ll find dishes so packed with flavours and textures you won’t believe it’s gluten-free!
In Florence, Osteria la Spugnone is a great spot for gluten-free pasta dishes and bread and keep your eye out for the special ‘senza glutine’ section in supermarkets! Don't be put off visiting the smaller Tuscan areas, because they’re packed with great places to eat too! In Lucca, try Ristorante San Colombano for delightful pizzas, or visit Le Vecchie Mura in San Gimignano and delve into their gluten-free menu!
